are we getting arrogant

Re: Fans' arrogance a worry

Ah, the daily (or is it hourly) "our fans are arrogant" thread.

Load of bollocks if you ask me, we're enjoying our current performances and results. Exactly what football supporters should be doing.

True, and new threads that are already covered in depth in other threads also really annoy me.

I do apologise. I hadn't seen the other thread. Mods feel free to merge. You see, that's how you show humility. BTW you couldn't possibly have read my post in the time you took to reply.

Re: Fans' arrogance a worry

In what way exactly ? I didn't feel that at all. All this "turning arrogant" stuff is well wide of the mark in my opinion, its not the first time I've heard it recently.

I thought all the normal City humour was there, we sang about the Wolves fans because they let themselves down last weekend singing "you don't know what you're doing", and were proved wrong by McCarthy (an ex blue who has been nothing but complimentary about City), because he pulled them back into it with his subs, they only felt that way because it was Swansea, who they saw as an easy three points.

We sang "we'll score when we want" as a pisstake of united's pathetic song "do what we want" possibly the most cringeworthy song they have ever come up with. We sang "we only need one more" at 5-1 because we were taking the piss out of the weekends result at OT.

If we mentioned the attendance, and I don't remember a song about it, it was because it was pitiful, given there were nearly 3000 of us.

Cheering their goal wasn't arrogant it was just a funny moment because of the hoplessness of their situation, and most of them seemed to share the funny side.

All in all I didn't feel any difference from when we were in division 2 taking the piss out of ourselves, in fact we were worse then with songs like "we'll never play you again" and "only here to see City" and the like.

Re: Fans' arrogance a worry

As long as we stick to celebrating OUR performance and not criticising the performance / ground / fans of others we'll be ok.

Wolves fans are just fans like us, they haven't been as lucky as us, but they love their club as much as we love ours.

Respect for others is paramount - it's what makes classy clubs and classy fans stand out.

I much prefer away fans coming to Manchester to leave thinking "they were good fans, looked after us, wished us well, we'll come again" than "awful club, awful fans"<br /><br />-- Sat Oct 29, 2011 11:06 am --<br /><br />

Have to agree with much of this - if it's in good humour it makes for great entertainment - just like the South Stand and East Stand chanting at each other! - great fun.

The only thing I'm against is genuine insults and mocking empty grounds etc, poor stadiums etc. In many way, it only makes you more sympathetic of what some clubs and fans are going through and how lucky we've been of late.

This is my point entirely. It was more what was being said by fans around, disparaging remarks about the City of Wolverhampton the ignorance of fans, etc'etc', not the songs, which were quite funny tbh.

It's a cautionary plea, not a criticism.

Re: Fans' arrogance a worry

We have always sung 'shit ground, no fans' haven't we?....have done at most aways I went to in the nineties

We've got some right dick heads following our club. Since the day of the takeover the arrogance/cockiness/wankerishness has been creeping in and getting worse and worse. Songs like "we'll buy your club and burn it down" was started just two weeks after the takeover, and it's a fucking horrible Rag-esque chant. As is the most recent "we're Man City, we'll score when we want!". Both - and there are quite a few others - are so Raggy they make me feel dirty! The way some go on about other clubs as if they're a joke (just like the Rags do about everyone but them), even if they've achieved much more than us throughout history, is sometimes stupid. The expectation where fans just demand to be entertained and demand wins, as if the other team is some Sunday pub team, is getting to the point where even a mis-placed pass is met with huge groans. Also the way THOUSANDS fuck off en mass from every game no matter what the time of kick off, the day of the game, the importance of the game, the opposition, the scoreline or whether there's 15minutes left or whatever as if they're all saying "meh, you don't deserve my undying support to the very end and even if you did I can't be arsed to give it to you". All of this makes me think the type of fans supporting my club aren't the same kind of fans as me and all my mates. I'm not saying they've oy just turned up, but the money has brought the worst out in them.
