Arsenal (H) - FA Cup | Post Match Thread

It stood out that they had midfield legs where we were struggling with the pace especially the first half, needs correcting

Only joined one cup scheme the FA one as I do not, at my age, enjoy midweek night matches but make the effort for PL games.

What happens Chelsea on a Sunday at 4:30pm, Arsenal Friday at 8:00pm and the next match is midweek as well.

That is the FA Cup scheme joining the other 2 schemes in the bin next season.
It's because of the draws though, the 2 biggest games of each round by far, tv is always gonna pick them.

Well done Mancs, through to the next round. When I saw Arteta’s team selection, I realised the FA Cup clearly wasn’t his priority. My point about our not having your strength in depth was proven last night as those that came in to cover are not at the same level. Having said that, we didn’t do too bad against a City side that laboured to beat us. Should be interesting to see how we fare against you at the Emirates.

It’s easy for a decent side to compete for the title when you’re not in the CL. This is your only chance to win it though in my view since you’ll drop off loads having to balance the two comps next year. If you don’t win it then it might be another 20 years until you do :)

At times last night we played like most away team’s do at the Etihad. Instead of us controlling the game, it was though we had conceded it was Arsenal who would do so and our job was to try and knock them out of their stride. We will definitely need to play better in the two league games. However we got the win and ultimately that’s all that matters.

In the City end? How do you know they weren’t City fans unimpressed with your somewhat ponderous style of play?
You seem like a decent enough lad, but sometimes I really wish you'd shut up with this patronising, needling shite or do it some where I don't have to constantly fucking see it.

Damn right. So sick of the bullshit narrative about him being out of form. Total fucking nonsense. I'm playing Silva over DeBruyne or Gundogan every day of the week at this point.
What did Silva do that was so exceptional ? He was lively, busy and helped us keep control as you'd expect with a 15 minute cameo but nothing eye popping about him at all. We'd scored by the time he came on. Walker and Alvarez made a much bigger impact.

They were City fans then? Yes, I could see quite a few empty seats in the City stands a good 10 minutes before the end. Though given the wait for a tram or a bus afterwards, I can understand that

Mate, you should probably stop acting like a dick head in most of your posts on here tbh. You’re the one bizarrely spending so much time on a completely different teams forum. It’s like a few months of good form has completely gone to your head. Do yourself and all of us a favour and tone it down a bit eh?

I said this a few games ago, that Lewis still needs to learn his craft in 'lesser graded' games before pushing for first team proper. At the time, I said I classed Arsenal in the top tier of games he shouldn't play in yet(okay, this was the FA Cup, so almost acceptable).

Whilst he wasn't terrible, I didn't think he was effective and Walker could have easily played there all game. Martinelli would have tore him a new one as he gave Walker issues.

Anyway, I was told the other week "if he's good enough, he's old enough". Yes and no. In a straight game, for a straight team, I'd see that. This team is never a straight one under Guardiola's expansive tactics.

The kid's good, but he needs time.
Indeed. Plus young players (even up to about 23-24 years old) are inconsistent.

A very good player at 18 can give you a MOTM performance one week but you’d be hard pushed to get that again in the same few months and you’re more likely to have two poor, one average and one decent performances in a run of games after that MOTM performance from a young man.

We've never been any good a throw ins, ever. It's always amazed me that any opposition have been able to find their player, get out of trouble or start an attack whilst we seem to waste loads of time and then throw straight at them.
Agreed, Brightwell & White were like Laurel and Hardy in City shirts fucking about game after game.

I think a bigger win did come out of it in the end.

Arteta had to bring on all of the big guns and they didn't get a kick in the last 20 minutes.

he did, but starting a so called weaken 11 sorts of took the pressure off him if he lost with his strongest 11,
Arsenal are a major threat to the title this season, they got nothing really to lose because it's a young squad that will go again next season and beyond,

Pep at Manchester city is in his final stages and maybe one more major build in the summer if we don't win the Champions League this season, BUT if we win the Champions League this season, then maybe the door is open and the horse will bolt and run off,

Who knows?
It must be hard to keep the motivation up after winning 4 in 5 titles but I still back us to catch you. We're in 2nd gear at the moment so we just have to hope we can get into 3rd or 4th. Arsenal having not won the title for 20 years will get jittery come the end of the season so we just have to stay within touching distance I think.

Semi concussed, my arse. He played the ref, staying down and feigning a head injury when we had a break on. Gamesmanship is what it was.
Sorry I beg to differ, granted I wasn't at the game but for once that was an advantage. They did a close up on TV of Haaland as they were examining his eyes and you could see that at first he wasn't completely there. Maybe not semi concussed but definitely not feigning anything. Sorry. :-)

As an Arsenal backer frankly happy with the loss. People can call it loser or small club mentality but when you haven’t won the league in 19 years and you have a relatively thin squad you prioritize competition our biggest competition.

Pretty happy with how our team fared when Thomas was in there. We don’t play well at City no one really does. Lots of changes, and felt we outplayed City and had better chances what they were for early part of match. If City wanted to dent the team’s belief or put fear in us then on that score they failed

You've been very impressive this season. And fair fucks to you so far. You're worthy of top spot as it stands. I'm not quite as concerned with your boys as I (still) am when we play Liverpool, but Arteta is definitely building a squad to challenge on all fronts over the next few years.

Both sides can take something from last night. You played well with a second string and had us on the back foot for periods of the game. We won with a stronger team out, but without really getting going.

How do you think you guys will approach the Europa? Can't be too good having Thursday/Sunday schedule until the end of the season?

Yes, I'll give him that, it was clearly a game plan so that was never going to look great for him but he was just floating them up to the half way line in the general direction of Haaland and most of the time were just headed away. Nothing special at all in that, most keepers could have done something similar imo. I'm not trying to knock him but surely people don't think he has anything approaching the passing ability of Ederson.
Arsenal pressed us, man for man. There was no way we could play out from the back. They forced us to play long.
