This is his first season in the Premiership and he was over played, but already has been better than a lot of world class players.

Over played? and which world class players has he been better than?
My fault for not clarifying. I meant he has had a better first season in the Premiership than many world class players have had. Not taking into consideration players bought for potential he has had a better first season than Mata, Silva, Bergkamp, Vidic, Evra, Tevez, Mascherano, Hazard and Drogba. Those are just the ones, who went on to be great successes at in the Premiership.

Ozil was never the fittest player in the world. At Madrid he was often rested when the games were won. Wenger refused to give him a rest and kept playing him game after game. Even when the matches were won, he still kept him on the pitch. It was inevitable his body would break down and get injured. Towards the end he had no speed and contrary to what some people think Ozil is pretty quick.

Some of the names on your list are ridiculous, a Sun readers guide to first seasons eg anyone who watched Silva week in week out that season knew how good he was, its just the media didnt pick up on it
To think they said he was too lightweight. It's incredible when you think about it, really.

Which names on the list are ridiculous? I still watch at least 80% of City games, probably more. It's more a case of people wanting to downplay Ozil's achievements. The press have been on his back continuously. He has had a very good first season and as I have said instrumental in them progressing so far in the cup. Ozil has been the decider in so many Arsenal games this season. It's more a case of people following The Sun to jump on Ozil's back than following the Sun to not give Silva credit in his first year.

We've covered Silva. Drogba scored 10 in 26 league games and Tevez first season led to a transfer to utd!!

Talk to any Chelsea fans about Drogba's first season. Tevez was not even given a real chance in his first season. He came into the team in the last 6 or so games, was good and helped keep them up. It was more what he did before he came to England that got him his move. We disagree about Silva.

if this thread was on the main forum you'd be getting absolutely ripped about silva

and i'm sorry but 'ask any chelsea fan about drogba' is barely hard proof! yes he fell over a lot but his stats speak for themselves

as do tevez 1 goal in 3 for west ham!

the point is they all had more impact than ozil, and my original point is ozil isnt who arsenal needed anyway even if he was delivering

You mean you're wrong about Silva.

Silva's form in his first season has never been replicated by him until the last couple of months.

Yes this is a City forum and there is going to be some bias. If Arsenal win the FA cup then Ozil has had the exact same impact as Silva, but with worse players around him.

Bringing up Drogba, suggest to me you are rewriting history. His stats were okay, but hardly ground breaking and 1/3 for a world class striker is not particularly good.

The great thing about the internet is that you can actually check what people were actually saying. Here is a link to a Chelsea forum about Drogba.

I wonder on what basis you claim that Drogba was better in his first season than Ozil. Drogba would be the first to admit he struggled in his first season.

Here are some articles about just how well Tevez was doing at West Ham.

Tevez has proved a major flop so far since his move to Upton Park in August, the 22-year-old yet to score in 10 appearances for the Hammers.

He looks set to leave the club when the transfer window reopens in January, along with countryman Javier Mascherano who joined as part of the same deal and has proved equally ineffective.

As I said he had a strong end, but I really have to question how you can claim either Drogba or Tevez did better than Ozil

I would be pretty dejected also tbh, it would be the huge juicy carrot that is always just out of your reach for factors fans can't influence.
Not that there are many they can tbh.

I feel the Arsenal board is to comfy and until they go or get a real rocket up their arse (man utd style season) this dynamic is unlikely to change soon.

If only the tight wads had offered more than £1 over the £40 million buy out clause they could have bought Suarez and be looking at the double now.
Not as though the club has not got the money.

The £1 was a bit silly but to be fair they thought the buy out was offers over £40 mil so why would you offer much more. As it turns out it seems the buyout was £40 mill but Liverpool just ignored the contract terms.

But I don't think they would have ignored £70 million plus, silly money I know but what a ROI it would have been for Arsenal. They identified who they needed but didn't have the bottle to carry it through.

lol i could find more articles saying the opposite but don't need to because my argument isn't really based on how good they were, they only need to be average to have had a better first season than ozil
