Arsenal Thread 2015/16

Apart from the silly sarcasm, i agree that i don't think anyone connected with the club will give 2 shits about being out of this competition, its almost impossible to juggle 4 competitions and to lose players like walcott ox for the sake of a crap competition the no one really cares about is ridiculous.

But you've got a great new German physio so he'll have them back up by weekend?

;)

I'm surprised that a set of fans that had to endure eight years of winning precisely fuck all until last years fa cup can be so blasé about getting knocked out of anything before Xmas. There is also something a bit scouse-like about the annual prediction that it might be 'their year' in the league when recent history suggests that at some point between now and the clocks changing again it will all go tits up. I quite like arsenal as they provided a bit of interest in the'90's with a brilliant team that stopped the scum having it all their own way, but the fact is they just made cunts of themselves (again) in the league cup. We might do the same, but I won't be pretending it's all part of some masterplan to do the cl/domestic treble because that would make me a (deluded) twat.

Who are we supposed to pick then? Our first choice 11? Or close to our first 11? I think he picked team simply because he had to put 11 out and wanted to use as little 1st and 2nd choice players as possible. Per only played because he didn't play against everton.

He's probably already gonna get stick for ox and walcott getting injured playing in the most unimportant of the 4 competitions. Imagine we lose ozil who could be so instrumental to our title hopes, because he gets injured in a carling cup game against sheff wed?

players that are good enough that he bought to strengthen the squad in the summer, or youngsters that your academy have produced that are good enough to play.

All Wenger's fault, it's come back to bite you.

Arsenal's younger players used to be very good in the league cup - I wonder what has happened for there to be such a gap in quality. Wednesday are good but it wasn't a weak Arsenal team - the core was strong.

It's a tough one for Arsenal, as it is for us. We probably will try harder to stay in the competition and we've probably got more quality in youth with Roberts, Garcia and Nacho being able to slot in without too much hassle I'd imagine. But with all the injuries we have we can't make too many changes but equally can't afford any more injuries. Arsenal suffering a bit now but they're unlikely to cope as well as we will with key players out. They might be a bit static with Oxlade and Walcott out.

I think the biggest thing is that in the last 2 years we've not only had a much stronger 1st team but also the 21/22 man squad in general. For example on the right where ramsey has been playing, if he gets injured we had ox and walcott who could both play there. On the left we've got sanchez, ozil can play there if needs be, up front we have giroud and walcott, central defence we have per kos and gabriel with chambers as back up. Right back bellerin debuchy, midfield a lot of options. The problem is theres no easy way at all for the youngsters to get into the team. In the past we've had maybe a decent first 11 but thats about it, so when they got injured we bought the younger players in and they got experience quickly. That isn't happening at the moment which is affecting their development.

Ultimately though, i love seeing young players come through but reality is that isn't happening much anywhere now. The competition is so high you need ready made top players to compete.

All I hear from Arsenal-fans is they are happy to be knocked out of the LC because this competition could hurt their titlechallenge. Arsenal and Wenger have never taken this competition serious and not paid the respect it deserves based on it's history. It's close to arrogance to state you are happy for your team to bow out because you feel entitled to challenge for more important silverwear when it's the end of October. There is a difference between rotating and purposely keeping away your best players. The latter is showing disrespect to the competition and to your own fans who did pay a lot of money to travel and get a matchticket.
Any fan loves to see his/her team play a final at Wembley. The last two years the winner of the LC also won the PL-title. So it's hard to defend an excit from this competition will help a titlechallenge. Especially at this time of year.

My jaw is killing me from keeping a straight face during that match yesterday.

  • 33 Cech
  • 02 Debuchy Booked
  • 21 Chambers
  • 04 Mertesacker
  • 03 Gibbs
  • 20 Flamini
  • 47 Kamara (Bielik - 60' )
  • 28 Campbell Booked
  • 15 Oxlade-Chamberlain (Walcott - 5' )
  • 45 Iwobi
  • 12 Giroud
That team shouldn't be losing 3-0 to Sheffield Wednesday whatever their squad is like, and blaming youngsters isn't an excuse, they only started with 3 non regular first teamers.

And one of those non-regular first teamers has won the Greek title and played in the Champions League knock out stages with Olympiakos as well as playing in the World Cup knock out stages with Costa Rica.

They have won the FA Cup 2 years on the run so I don't think their fans will be overly concerned about not getting to Wembley in this one. I would have been more pissed off as an Everton fan seeing Martinez put out a weakened team when they are not in Europe so have fuck all else to concentrate on other than their usual finish somewhere outside the top 6. It ended well but could have easily not done.
