Arsenal Thread | 2024/25

But I suspect the whistling wankers will still allow teams to piss the time up the stand walls. Oliver warned Raya about the time he was taking just after half an hour. The goalie continued for the last hour in the same manner as the first half hour, and Oliver did fuck all about it. Governance and arbitration of the game as it currently obtains will drive fans to seek alternative spectacles.

It's clearly difficult for the ref. With Raya, he starts with the nonsense where they pretend he's kicking, then he changes his mind and gives it to a defender, or vice versa. After he was warned, it was mostly just moving a little slower, which wastes just a few seconds, but stays just the legal side of things. It adds up, and frustrates everyone, but it's hard to card him for it.

Oliver did try with some of the timewasting. When a second player went down with cramp, he immediately called on the trainer, so that time can stop and the player would have to go off the pitch. When it was clear they were just wasting time before a substitution, he simply ignored the next one to go down. He also booked the player who passed the message on to Raya, which is all he's allowed to do, but it does show that he knew the piss was being taken.

I also don't buy that Rodris injury was entirely accidental.

There's a good view on Insude City of Parteys knee going into Rodri so just a way of tripping him up but using his knee not his foot to cover it up a bit.

Don't know how much time they must spend thinking these things up.

I'm pretty sure we are more looking forward to playing them at the Emirates than Arsenal themselves. We will be pumped up for sure but unlike Arsenal we will be controlled with our aggression whereas they won't be.
Especially when you see this, because if someone looked at me like Haaland is looking at him there I’d be making sure I’m unavailable for that match!

Yeah I don't reckon much will change, unless they go back to adding 12 minutes and stuff like that. Reckon he'll get a token booking next time he's taking ages about a goal kick, but I'd like to see it when he feigns injury instead.

Main thing I'd want to see is freekicks being given against Martinelli or whoever blocks the keeper. There are ways around it defensively, but it's impeding the keeper and it should just be a free kick, pretty simple. If that starts happening I'll be happy enough.

With the rules on keepers, it's obvious why he is chosen as the one to sit down.

As far as I can see, the only way around it, would be to ban the coaching cluster itself when a keeper is down injured.

It became apparent from the first whistle itself that Arsenal were in no mood to play football. It was an ego game for them. They targeted Rodders from the first minute and later their striker admitted that it was part of their game-plan to target him specifically. He got fouled off the ball on 3 separate occasions in his brief stay on the pitch. Well, congratulations Mr Havertz, you lot got what you wanted from this game. Rodders got injured and he can be potentially out for the season. Anyone thinking that they will change their ways is entirely mistaken. Mr Gabriel has already said that they will be waiting for City at their place. God knows one or two will be targeted or the entire team. City should be ready for their plan now however.

Rodders talked about the mentality/inferiority complex after last season and that's why he was targeted. And by doing so, they proved him right yet again. They are behaving like a group of teenagers acting out like gangsters. And this all stems from the leadership group. This is all on Arteta. He has encouraged this, trained them to behave like this. He was HUGGING/CONSOLING Trossard after he was stupidly sent off and handed the momentum back to City. He let down his team, his colleague, his fans by his idiocy and he was being CONSOLED by his manager. No wonder, they crumble once the pressure mounts. Arteta should focus on his players playing football and not behaving like GTA characters. He may win something for a change.

PS: I have called their manager out for his negativity. I am afraid that I will be targeted too!!!

The plague of time wasting is dealt with differently by different refs. Eddie was booked for putting the ball on the goal area line and then moving it a foot to one side. Nowhere near the time Raya pissed up the goal posts. The largest portion of the blame must rest with IFAB. It's the guardians of the LotG that could do summat about it, but they bugger up as much as they mend so I wouldn't expect any improvement soon. I would specify a number of seconds to get the ball in play from a ball in touch. I'm certain the ref could have a little gizmo or, better still, a digital clock that is counting down and reverts to the mode showing how many secs left, that vibrates when the time is up, and then a goal kick reverts to a corner and the other team can have the throw in. Same for free kicks. We'll get more of a chance of the game approaching 90mins instead of, probably, less than 60 on Sunday. And opposition teams will have to come up with another method of cheating their opposition and fans.

Perhaps we should call them Athletico Arsenal from now on.
