I think religion reflects our species' reluctance to accept death as a better alternative to life.It is inhumane to allow a loved one to suffer needlessly, especially against their express wishes and in light of their known medical deficiencies.
It is only religion, and religion’s hold on law and morality, that have withheld a dignified and humane death from the many who have sought it in the sanctity of their own home or country.
A humane and dignified death should be a human right, wherever and whenever possible.
