Assisted dying

It is inhumane to allow a loved one to suffer needlessly, especially against their express wishes and in light of their known medical deficiencies.

It is only religion, and religion’s hold on law and morality, that have withheld a dignified and humane death from the many who have sought it in the sanctity of their own home or country.

A humane and dignified death should be a human right, wherever and whenever possible.
I think religion reflects our species' reluctance to accept death as a better alternative to life.

I think religion is deadly and has caused more death in the world than it claims to save.

While it helps create the myth of eternal life, it ignores, in many respects, the real needs of those actually living.

The world has been gripped by religious power and its “morality” for millennia, and the sooner we rid ourselves of the delusion, the better.

Although reading slightly different, a surgeon told me over ten years ago medics don't have to take the hippocratic oath anymore.

That's my understanding too, that's why I put the quotation marks. Its the oath formerly known as...

Would have been better using italics but my settings don't allow me to do that, think I'll have to clear history.

I can’t get my head around the religious fanatics who want to maintain the status quo…

The same people who worship a God who, if real, believes it’s fair to let people die in horrific agony and indignity.

If God is real, fuck him, and I’m glad I’d be able to choose a more comfortable death should I be unlucky enough to require it.

Jesus died for our sins which meant he was coerced into it and felt like he needed to die to benefit us....setting the benchmark for this law, if those opposing it are correct.

Religious folk often regard atheists as delusional, not sure the characterisation is very helpful to understanding either group tbh.

So given the 275 came from all parts of the political spectrum with a variety of different reasons for voting against, what's the definition of shyster in this instance?
That they are happy for the dying and their families to go through torture so MP's needn't make a tough decision.

Does that answer your question?

Are you sure? It can only be delusional that people believe in a ‘sky god’, surely? To probably misquote Douglas Adams and the Babel Fish.

"The argument goes something like this: 'I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, 'for proof denies faith, and without faith, I am nothing.' 'But, says Man, the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and, by your own arguments, you don't. QED.' 'Oh dear,' says God, 'I hadn't thought of that,' and vanishes in a puff of logic. 'Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing……
