Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post-Match Thread

They did deserve a point we were pap!
I can’t remember another meaningful attack from them. Their goal was a real bolt from the blue, a good goal which good players can come up with now and then, but outside the pattern of the game. Look at the match stats:

Yeah I agree, villa were well organised and maybe we should give them more credit rather than just saying we were all shit. We weren't brilliant I know but villa played their part in that I'd say.
I thought Villa were piss poor and if Gundogan, KDB and Foden had played anywhere near to how they normally play we’d be looking at a 4 or 5-0 win tonight

Always best to go out & walk the dog after a game like that, overall don’t think we did enough to win the game, thought 1-1 was a fair reflection, bigger picture is we are undefeated, Haaland is flying, and that’s 3 tricky away games out of the way, hopefully get a decent result in midweek & onto Spuds which is gonna be a great game, if offered the points we have at the start I’d of taken it, given Chelsea & Liverpool look off it and Spurs & Arsenal are flakey at best it’s looking like we’re gonna be the ones to beat again
City are normally great at handling constant midweek football. It's all well and good that Arsenal can play the same XI every game at the start of the season and Kane hasn't taken a knock, but Pep is the master of wall-to-wall football. I have no doubt that we will pick up away from home, gradually integrate Gomez, Phillips and Alvarez and enter the new year in a strong position. I'm as pissed off as anyone that we didn't win, but I've seen City start slowly before and gain momentum. We lost four of our first 11 games under Pellegrini and still won the league. Good teams that try to improve often find difficulties along the way and we are no exception. 14 points from 18 is a good return.

He was basically standing in the same corner, but for some reason bent his knees' and was not able to stop the shot directed where he was standing. A good goalkeeper would do. Please watch it again in a slow motion from the back shot .

There wasn’t time for him to move anywhere before the shot was past him.

Unless you can improve reaction times to that of an Olympic sprinter, no keeper is touching that shot.

They had a very good one in the first half that Watkins should have finished watch it back on motd. We weren’t good enough today and had loads of chance to win. But they did deserve a point

Ederson couldn't stop a bowling ball rolled at him by a 5yo!
He made good saves during this game, especially a one-on-one - he’s clearly one of best in the league at those. Maybe he’s not the greatest shot stopper of all time but our trophy cabinet suggests he is good enough. All other aspects of his game are outstanding.

All keepers make mistakes. The Villa keeper had a good game today but gave away two goals last week.

Very sloppy - look very tired.

Spurs will probs do us next week too.
We have had a fairly good run of fixtures so far but despite picking up the points esp against the promoted sides, i don’t think we have been that great. The upcoming fixtures will be more of a test but if we keep putting in these sort of performances we will drop quite a few points.
Its been a very strange season in the PL in general this season and the World Cup Break in the middle also and i think the top 4 battle will involve alot more teams this year

Poor game where we failed to exploit the dippers’ loss of another 2 points.

It‘s never in the bag with a 1-0 lead. Why weren‘t we freshened up by bringing on Alvarez? Is there something wrong with him?

I won’t be losing any sleep though. We got the best equipped squad in the league but the occasional off-day is inevitable.

He has made some awful decisions rushing off his line and giving away penalties but the one today was spot on. Silly to criticise anything he did today.
