Aston Villa had 20 touches in our third of the pitch in the first half.

They parked the bus.

I commented on the match day thread that Villa were only prepared to engage us once the ball the crossed the half way line. At one time we were playing the ball square across our back four just outside our area and the closest Villa player actually turned and retreated to the half way line.
Maybe not bus parking in the Newcastle sense but pretty close.

Perhaps we can all agree that they were at least circling the car park to find a space?

Good win as Saturday lunch time games are never easy especially after playing in mid week. Villa were very well organised and dangerous on the break and second half was a lot better and the early goal certainly helped. Gundo was excellent today and capped off a great performance with a good goal.

Gundogan was second to the ball plenty of times and when that happens its a lot of work and pressure for the rest of the team, dont think he was as good as some say, but his decision making on the ball kept possession nicely
I liked Mendys performance the amount of times being stronger than the forward and knowing how to use that advantage,allowed him to take his time and make a pass or clearance was very good

You can't see how the VAR decision went in our favour?

It's really simple. If Silva touched the ball, Sterling is offside and the goal is ruled out. If he didnt touch the ball, the goal is OK.

Silva celebrated the goal and told the referee afterwards he touched it. The goals panel are still debating it 1 hour later because they think he did.

We got a VAR decision in our favour because there wasn't enough evidence to prove Silva touched it even though he says he did.
