Aston Villa (H) - Post-Match Thread

Sarcastic Neville just now on Sky. They advertised a documentary about City called, We Are Not Really Here and he said, they may not be.
To think blues were up his ring piece after the video he did last week, he hates us as he apparantly showed with his comments during the game ,i had a yank feed who were much fairer

You’re one of those people that won’t be happy unless we win the league every single season. We’re no worse off now, better positioned in fact, than when we finished 2nd in 19/20. We followed that season up with another back to back title show.

Ultimately, we won’t win the league every year and when we don’t win it, it’ll be because we weren’t at our best. It’s impossible to win the league every year and success usually brings a small drop off in desire across the board. It’s human nature. It’s why most PL title winning managers have been sacked the year after winning the league over the last decade. Pep is the only one to manage to retain the title (x2) and our ‘bad’ season sees us drop to the lowly depths of 2nd. What an absolute disaster.

Guess what? If we don’t win the league, we’ll come back as strong as ever just like the last time. We certainly won’t be dossing round in mid table like Liverpool. So many people, like yourself, only see what’s happened right now rather than being able to look at the bigger picture. What happened before, is it like now, what might happen in the future going off past events etc.

The big picture in case you can’t work it out is that we’ll carry on being the most successful club in the league regardless of a season or two where we aren’t at our best. Just prepare to be really really unhappy in the odd season we don’t win it. :)
You completely mis-read me mate. I have no problem with us winning nothing (although clearly that would be disappointing). I am just a bit dismayed by the way we are playing. And I don't mean effort from the players or the form of some of our players. Just seems to me that something isn't right.

And I would add that if we DO NOT win the league, having won it the last 2 seasons and then added Erling Haaland FFS, then we really do need a right good kick up the arse. I know this isn't footy on a Playstation and shit happens. But 19 clubs thought we'd walk it once we signed Haaland, and the fact we are playing worse with fewer goals, more goals conceded and more dropped points, well, it's underachieving IMO.

Volume always off when he, or the man who spits at kids, is on a game. I can’t think of a single instance when I would want to hear his opinion on anything.

Good first half,we looked up for it and motivated which hasn't always been the case.Playing on the front foot and using Haalands presence isnt rocket science but for some reason we have previously been reluctant.
Thankfully Villa, who didnt really turn up,were the ideal opponent for us to get a bit of confidence back and push on.

As for the second half, quite a contrast. We took our foot off, bored the spectator senseless, and it could have cost us.Game management is fine but not at the expense of allowing the opponent opportunity.

MOTM was probably Rodri, although Bernie needs appreciation for his man for any occasion ability. It was fucking great to see Dias back and Kev looking more like his better self.

Looking forward to Wednesday now, providing no Pep brain farts,or Eddie howlers,we should be golden.

I don't mind him TBH. He bigs us up often enough and has called out FFP for the sham it is. He's often complimented us about the regeneration of east manchester and said openly that if what we are doing is wrong, and what the Glazers have done is OK, then the rules are a joke. Of course he'll have the occassional dig - he's a rag and I am sure we'd all do the same the other way around. But in the main I find his comments pretty decent.

FAR worse is that moron Tyler whose hatred drips off every sentence. His comment yesterday that we should be given one month to defend ourselves, had me nearly throwing the remote at the TV. How about innocent until PROVEN guilty you twat and the PL being given 1 month to prove it or fuck off.

Good summary IMO. Exactly as I saw it/see it.

I haven’t. Everything I said stands to what you even put in this post and guess what? People like yourself said ‘something isn’t right’ the last time we came 2nd and were miles behind Liverpool.

Every time we don’t win the league we’ll be ‘underachieving’ and the only way you’ll ever ever be satisfied is if we win the league every single season.

It’s not as simple as adding Haaland. We’ve had bad injuries in defence. We have no left back. Teams double up on Haaland because our other players don’t score enough goals. These things take time to adapt to. Sometimes it might mean a year where we don’t win the league but we’ll work to fix it and come back the year after if we can’t get it done with what we already have.

Don't disagree with any of that. None of it contradicts what I have said.

Akanji really is the £16m defender he is.

Doesn't get touch tight, Pep screaming at him repeatedly to do so.

Can't win shit in the air and positionally weak.

The drop off is huge which is a shame, because he looked composed on the ball when he first arrived.

Walker has defo peaked and, dare I say it, losing a bit of pace.

De Bruyne continues to frustrate and be careless, while Mahrez played for himself.

Decent first half from Bernie, Gundo and Rodders, and job done by then.

A second half to forget, such was the boredom.
Totally agree about Akanji , his performance against Brentford was an embarrassment , his lack of physicality and desire to put his body on the line is obvious every game .
