It wasn’t always like that in the Kippax, and it isn’t always quiet now.Been some great atmospheres recently and there were plenty of shit ones at Maine Road.
indeed............how long have you got....

I think the point I'm making (for myself) is that the Kippax when it was a massive standing terrace had far greater capacity for mad ballooning nights with thousands of , mainly, young lads paying little or fuck all to get in.

I've never experienced that standing Kippax mayhem in 20 years of the Etihad.

Said this in another thread, out of 53,000,including 3000 away fans maybe 2000 will be corporate (a guess) the 8000 matchday fans will mainly be regulars and probably 2000 ish so called tourists (another guess).
Blaming those 4000 corporate / tourists out of 53000 for any lack of atmosphere is nonsense.
The fact we’ve had great atmospheres in games like the Madrid game prove it’s the occasion not the crowd make up that determine the atmosphere.
Besides I’ve seen tourists join in while some regulars don’t, or even worse constantly wonder around while the games on.
Bob on mate

Unfortunately it isn’t.
The club have to shoulder a considerable
amount of the blame for the atmosphere these days. But they simply couldn’t give a fuck as long as they are selling high priced tickets.
Why are they to blame for the atmosphere ? Seriously ? 35 thousand city fans are ol

I genuinely don't think it's fair to blame the club though. History has shown us when people can be up for it the atmosphere is as good as anywhere you'll see.

I think this season we've been complacent, from on the pitch to the stands. Everyone is more relaxed and is waiting for someone else to get things going.

Said this before but I sit in 115, on 80 minutes someone behind me was chastising the entire stand for not chanting, this same person fucked off to the bar on 30 minutes and didn't come back till 60.

We can't have it both ways. We can't blame tourists who take the seats that other fans wouldn't take. On the flip I also think there's a sense of apathy in the stands, we're expectant rather than proactive.

If you go to aways you can see the potential for our support when it is all singers congregated together .......aways have been or were always the best experience.

Back in the day aways were fucking mental.

Routine home games have never been great for atmosphere.

For me a cheap home all standing end in the lower tiers with only mad cunts allowed would help start off chants etc.

Never going to happen.

Agreed. It was hard to give tickets away at weekend. So many who went for years would rather watch it at home in the pub these days

I don't know whether they'd rather watch it at home. The way ticketing is as a whole is messed up and convoluted. Selling all the tickets at the start of the season, the now essential paid membership, no general sale and the pricing as a whole has made it less appealing to many. The working classes can't afford to pay for numerous games up front at the start of the season- especially if they have a family. Once you make things more difficult for people and they get out of the routine of going it's nigh on impossible to get them back again. If they tried to get tickets at the start of the season and missed out it's unlikely they'll try throughout the season and use the exchange. Some people have mentioned the Facebook Marketplace but you shouldn't have to resort to that. I don't have Facebollocks and I'm sure there's many others that don't either. This is where I think the club have slipped up as the tourists and day trippers etc can pick up the slack at the moment but if we have a few trophyless seasons can we prise those old match-going fans back?
