They probably waved back at Pep thinking it was part of the Tunnel Club package.

"Oh look, Pep is waving at us, take a picture quick"
lets be honest though
pep is obviously trying to gee up,get the wider CB all levels to make some noise.
he knows the tunnel club behind him is pointless for noise.

There's very little that I would consider to be 'honest' about that. He's posturing.

Whether it's in celebration or anger, it's clear that Pep's gestures are always very squarely aimed towards the tunnel club and directors area.

It's the equivalent of John Lennon asking the front row of the Palladium to rattle their jewellery

If you believe that then,he's being sarcastic towards them.cos he knows like you do and everyone else,he wont get anything out of the tunnel club as in passion or true support, just rich people or people on an expensive day out

There were more tourists today than I have ever seen, how many tickets does the club set aside for them? Could they not go in their own section? And could all take selfies of each other and film the game without interruption from us normal fans ?
I walked up JMW and round to M1 and I saw half n halfs everywhere and I was honestly struggling to hear English being spoken.....I suppose 'locals' would be in the pub or not as giddy as 11.15-11.30 but it was a strange atmosphere outside and never really picked up inside. The best we managed in SS3 was a longish follow you everywhere, the dips were crap too.

Does he actually know that about the tunnel club though? I’m not being flippant. I genuinely don’t know how clued up he is about who inhabits the Etihad.

The ‘match day experience’ and everything that comes with it is aimed at the demographic Soriano wants to get through the turnstiles - tourists who will spend £200 in the club shop without skipping a beat, and the Corporate lot, some of whom are indifferent to the score line let alone inclined to make noise.

Does Pep think there are 50,000 working class Mancunians in the ground, paying £20 per ticket?

I love him for what he’s achieved. He’s taken us to heights I couldn’t have dreamed of when I was getting picked on at school in the 90s for being a Blue. But it is strange that we see this from him 2 or 3 times a season.

Come on mate.

There is absolutely no chance of anyone, let alone Pep, geeing up the CBS.

If he ran to the South stand and did it there, I'd say fair play to him as he wouldn't be wasting his time and he'd get a positive reaction from the fans in the South stand.

To be brutally honest, those in the tunnel club are likely mean a lot more to the City Group hierarchy than the mere mortals in the cheap seats.

Personally, I think Pep knows he's wasting his time trying to get a tune out of the fans and is just posturing for the telly.

I would imagine when this tunnel club thing came in,he was told, you and your players have to meet and greet and be nice and pleasent to the paying customers, come.on mate,if he doesn't know that,id be stunned.

of course they would
they would have a total tunnel club all around the stadium if they could, soriano
at least.

im in the chespest seats in the ground and have been since they offered the £299 in 318 and ssl3 at the back,i know who they prefer.

Pep and the players know the Tunnel Club fans are staring at them through the glass wall as they make their way to and from the pitch. They also know there won't be any singing and genuine support from that section of the Etihad. Just polite applause in-between silence, talking and networking.

Problem is the tourists want a spot in amongst it, but won't raise their voices or put their cameras down.

Some may favour City setting one or two blocks for postcodes unknown, or outside of Manchester, but I wouldn't. It's too walls in amongst an occupied country of land.

Definitely needs some thought. How can anyone get tickets ahead of Mancs? Regardless of their attendance week by week. Some fans CAN only make what work and family dictate.

Dont go down the 'ahead of mancs'. I'm manc born but sound southern and my southern mates have followed City all over Europe and England. We are all FOC and died hard blues. I would hate to think we would drop down the list because we dont have manc post codes

Yep, just flat all over the shop

I love City and always will but let’s face it, as a ‘legacy fan’ I’m at the very bottom of the club’s priority list.

I know that’s not a City-specific problem, it’s probably a symptom of success and modern football in general, but it’s still a crying shame.

I personally can't accept all these cheap excuses for a poor (at least lazy) support vs a title candidate and a club we love to being beaten and sent straigth back home. Feels to me like throwing away an opportunity.

I thought a true fan knows exactly when his team needs a kick up the arse starts to relentlessly push them to get it over the line.
Even if you subtract 5k tourists and 10k posh off 53k there are still more than enough to rock the ground.

Anyway. If we know the problem, I would suggest we make a good plan and make it public to stadium goers in order to improve early kickoff fan noise.

There also is a group in contact with the club and I would ask them to tell the club they have a responsibility as well. I think, as the problem is well understood, there must be an easy way to address it?
Let's get creative instead of just moaning.

I come in from east manc and walk down from clayton straight to N1.
yesterday from getting off the tram and going in,i saw one half n half in my block, and a few walking back to the tram stop at clayton hall, those i saw after the game were walking round from the east stand near the nexen bridge, its miles worse on all champs league games imo.

A very strange day. From the walk up to the ground with so many buying half and half scarves to the amount of people that couldn't find where they were sitting and walked across entire rows to find their seat. Then there was the Liverpool fan getting beaten up and thrown down the steps, the bloke a few rows down from me constantly on his phone talking to his missus or filming something. Liverpool fans started off like they were going to be noisy, but just went silent and we weren't as up for the game as we should have been.

Thought it was just OK yesterday in 116, as expected. All down to the KO time, no doubt about it. We're creatures of habit and the early start takes the "normality" out of the day.

Normal matchday:
Early doors brekky and beer in Sale
Tram to Paramount
Tram to Townley
Fully lubricated and in fine voice
5 min walk 15 before KO

Yesterday:
Get up
Go match

A couple of observations. A few half n half abominations in L1 concourse. All told to lose the red side....sharpish.

The "victims" song on 70-odd mins started in our block, not much uptake, but loud enough. The warning announcement came very quickly, which prompted a few nervous conversations amongst us about the potential consequences of partaking in such a distasteful hate crime.

Mate of mine, and probably quite a few on here, got arrested near the away coach park for shouting victims or summat. Subsequently charged with a public order offence and in court 8th Jan.

I got told to shut up and move on by a joyful young lady as she rode her horse through the green fields of Beswick, for daring to sing God Save The King in earshot of our loveable scouse neighbours as they left the campus. Yes folks, we can't even sing our National Anthem for fear of causing offence.

GMP at their absolute finest.

The best moment of the day was the earful we got on 117 aisle as we were berated by a fellow Blue for not getting behind the team..as he left the stadium with a good 15 minutes to play.

Oh, the irony.

I bet they’re more supportive than you tbf.
