Atmosphere at Eastlands

i think our mascot is boring and should consider changing it. and also giving it a more important role during the games. I imagine several of them supporting the team on the stands...

something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaVCfVbucVM

I don't think there's a hope in hell of significantly improving the atmosphere.

1. Huge chunks of the stadium are given over to corporates, who might as well be stiffs for all the noise they generate. Like the old Main Stand at Maine Road, only more so.

2. High prices keep out many of the traditional 'lads' and if/when they do go they are split up into small pockets by the reserved seating arrangements. Yes, OK, there is the odd cheap game, but when the habit is lost people tend not to go at all.

3. The attitude of the stewards and many of the crowd to anyone who gets 'excited'. Many people swear when they get emotional. I know in an ideal world they shouldn't but they do. The 'policing' of the stands, for want of a better word, means that some don't go and others stay quiet.

I don't see any of these factors changing, ever. It's the price the game has paid for turning football into something more like ballet or theatre, designed for the well-heeled middle classes and 'families'. City now clearly favour the corporate and family sectors, and other fans are only allowed in as long as they don't upset these groups, and as long as there's still room in the ground not needed for them. The reason is money. The corporates and families spend most.

we need the away fans moving so that our singing section can be bigger and better organised. I recomend corner south/collin Bell stand

get the kids organised in the north stand with flags banners and stop stewards from making a fuss if anyone stands up or waves a flag. we should organise more through sits like this. ticker tape banners inflatable day ext

Fucking hate the ground cannot stand the place. Shame old shit saying the police blah blah, we can force it threw if we want. City need an end and the north stand is not the answer!!

Give us the south stand ffs and stop throwing people out!!!

And get this playing again

That song is pretty intimidating and sounded great when pelted out at a night game with everyone going mad.

-- Fri Feb 25, 2011 8:21 pm --

This thread has actually depressed me as well as being in the North stand last night.

I was always against shifting the away fans, my thinking is the atmosphere is either side of them for a reason and it improves when we are playing a well supported club, we also have two other stands for "one end" however, I wouldn't be against moving them to the corner and seeing how it worked.

One change which would never happen would be you buy a ticket for the south stand and it is unreserved you then choose where and who you stand with. The club only sells the correct number of tickets so it can never be overcrowded, pretty much as it is now only you choose where to go. People would also get in earlier to get the better spots and create an atmosphere earlier without the need for shite music and Hugh Ferris.

That being said I think we compare very well to other Premier league teams and may have to accept this or at least the Hamburg game is as good as it gets.

I cant see them moving the away fans to either the Colin Bell or the East stand because season tickets and general tickets are more expensive than those in the north and south stands. So the club will be missing out on that money, unless they increase the away supporters ticket price, which wont happen.

Anyone think we need one of these massive banners? Even though it will only be used once or twice a season, use it for the Debry. Have the eagle on it or something along them lines

There's nothing the club can do about it but I think if the lower tier was bigger it would be an improvement.

We lack long loud songs. The longest that gets a regular airing is 'My father said...' but that's fairly quiet until the 'hark now hear' bit. Most of our other songs are a couple of lines at best which are repeated and then die out. After a few airings of each people get a bit bored of them and it is quite repetitive. Aris showed the way with some of their chants (rather than songs). They are louder and longer.

This thing about away fans is a red herring. Obviously it helps having a set of fans we can have some interaction with but it's up to us to create an atmosphere. I honestly don't think moving the away fans will suddenly give us this great atmosphere.

get people like me who had season tickets in the Platt Lane back in the day out of the f*ckin CBL3 (where I was sent after the wonderful idea of the two tier family stand) and back where I can get behind the team and be heard would be a start. If you ask me they should do a survey on what type of supporter you are and want to be then seat people with that in mind, then instead of pockets of people around the ground pissing other people off and being told to sit down etc they get sat nearer the SS and the singing section naturally expands around the ground

-- Fri Feb 25, 2011 11:00 pm --

This thread has actually depressed me as well as being in the North stand last night.

I also agree with this
