Atmosphere at Eastlands

I think that on europa league games we should take a drum it so we can get more singing going and it would be a good atmosphere because they away team always bring a drum like last night the aris fans had 5 or 6 with them and them loads of noise through out the game so it would be good if we good do that.

I noticed something on thursday that has more or less put the idea of any kind of atmosphere back into the english game in the ground for good and it all happend in the space of 5 mins.
It was around 30 mins before kick off and the away end looked fantastic, they had superb banners and flags with messages and images that you thought "bloody hell they are hardcore and intimidating" then they started singing, all of them in voice and loud as hell and all looked to be having a great time.

Then you had these two lads, late teens/early twenties who started singing City songs, first they sung bluemoon, then we're not really here then na na na city, the whole time they were looked at by a few people smiling and a couple of young girls the same age were laughing at them..........then over the tannoy the announcement came on that anyone caught swearing would be thrown out, anyone caught smoking would be thrown out and anyone caught being racist would be thrown out, the last one definatley but i half expected him to say anyone caught having fun or standing up and singing will be thrown out, it just put a real damper on anything, it felt like you were under pressure not to do anything because you didn't want to be thrown out.

So until we get the south stand as a proper end, until they allow us to put banners up that don't require a health and safety check and a size requirement check and don't block umbro, etihad, the city website and aabar signs which are displayed all over the ground then i'm sorry but any ideas of improving the atmosphere at eastlands is a waste of time and this thread might aswell be locked and left to drift off whilst we discuss the teams next upcoming game, don't get our hopes up by saying we are listening and up for any ideas, it is so simple one end dedicated to those who want to sing, let us bring own banners and hang them where we want.

Too obvious.

Just the standard of English gives you away.

I would like to see the away fans given 113 - 118 so that we are surrounding them on both side and from above. As it is now we are split by the away fans and instead of having 12 sections singing together we have two lots of six.

I'm pretty sure that the concourse could accomodate that and still allow the away fans to be contained in the same area of the coach park.

Put the away fans in the colin bell stand lower, the silence is deafening. Alcoholic beverages on Euro nights, we are not ALL children. More adventurous football on the pitch ,always seems to get the crowd going. The start of the Aris game was cracking, then it flat , directing support onto the pitch instead of just staring at the away support would help some. I thought the Aris fans were superb the other night, orchestrated ,so what , someone has to start the chanting. The rest of you just need to join in

A Lot of people seem to be saying more banners, flags etc and having them in a holding room etc. Now i have recently opened a franchised business that comes from the states and we basically rent out portable storage containers...i would happily give one of these to the club to be placed within the ground for no cost whatsoever as the advertising is more than enough for me...

So i can maybe solve the storage element so that us fans don't have to carry things to the game.

The atmosphere in England is reactionary and is sparked by things like good football, the other fans or a referees decision. The teams from Europe just go for it and enjoy themselves no matter what else is going on, they also seem keen on supporting their own team, rather than singing about their out of town rivals or directing chants to a rounded chap in a pink shirt in the away section.

It would require a complete change in the mentality of the fans to achieve anything near what we have seen from Aris and Poznan.

The thing is.

Fans across England are standing again in seated areas. Is that safe? No matter which ground it is, home and away fans have defied the no standing rule/ban. It's got to such an extent that the Government, the PL and the clubs should now introduce safe standing in one stand at each stadium. Keep the other 3 stands all seater.

One more point. This isn't a criticism of City. I'm really grateful that they let me in with the megaphone. However, it took 6 stewards of various supervisory levels to get the go ahead to let me into the ground with the megaphone. Until that point the stewards would not let me in the ground. That was after I explained who I emailed at the club.

Just for one second think about that. I'm taking a megaphone to the match, not flares, etc. But before I could gain access to the stadium, it had to go through various levels of authority before I finally got the OK. I don't know who makes these rules up or why they are implemented so strictly, but it seems to me that the people who run our country and football in general, have lost all sense of reality. Compare that to Rugby fans or fans of other sports, who can drink on the terraeces and do what they please, without little or any interference. You couldn't even by a beer tonight.

There is not a chance in hell that we would be allowed to create an atmosphere like the fans of Poznan and Aris have done.

Some good points jrb - I'm in 110 and leave the match with bruised / cut shins following goal celebrations and agree "safe-standing" should be re-introduced.

As many others have commented in this thread, we need to bring the 2 singing sections together (all previous issues raised noted ). We just aren't loud enough in 110/111 and often singing against/across/out of sync with SS.

I don't agree that we would not be allowed to create an atmosphere like Aris on Thursday - I think by taking the stance to bring in your megaphone, you have started the ball rolling - yes it was a pain to gain agreement but yet you managed to achieve it. Fair play to you!

We need more positive action like this and maybe more organisation?

Volunteers to head up City Ultras?

Aris and Poznan support was superb - how good would it be to emulate that?

If as we keep getting told the aways need to be in the SS due to Police advice why not just move them to the other side of the SS and let us move into their spot? Instant 6 blocks+ of singing City fans.
