Atmosphere tonight

oh as for this opinion of - you should go to the game, or you don't have an opinion.

So someone who goes to one game a season has more of an opinion than someone who may go to 40+ games a season, home and away.

I knew what the atmosphere was like tonight before the match even started because I've been to many Chumps league matches at our stadium, which is why I no longer go to them as the matchday experience is shit and not for me.

We urgently need a singing section, safe standing included.

it would be even better if everyone boycotted this matches - it might then give the business men at city a kick up the ass and they might just then start listening to fans rather than these pathetic shitty surveys on city-voice.

For a few years now we've cried out for a singing section. we want to improve atmosphere. we want cheaper tickets.

Will the club oblige?

if they can make a few quid out of it only then will they listen.

I'll voice my opinion on this club as much as I want.
The atmosphere wasn't that bad in 109 probably a few less singing as they aren't regular match attendants, but there again if the regulars can't be arsed should the club refuse to sell them the seats.

I agree, it doesn't spread is the problem. Imagine if the South Stand actually followed 111-109's lead, we'd have a pretty decent atmosphere.

Crowd only get really going at home if its a big game and we're playing well, its the name of the game now with the cost, unfortunately it keeps a lot of young and vocal support away. if you went to Hull on Saturday our section was buzzing and will be again at Villa.

I was talking to a mate about this not so long ago, and what some people forget is that City basically lost a generation of fans during our more recent dark days, whilst United we're enjoying success.

I'm 34 and have been a season ticket holder since I was 11...... I was one of those kids who had no but to be a blue, more and more fans at the time started to choose to support united.

I started going to away games on a regular basis when I was 18ish, and most of the lads then were between 18-25. The problem is now many of them lads have got kids of their own, and have moved out of the singing sections to areas of the ground where it's better for kids.

So my thoughts are that there simply isn't as many 18-25 year olds supporting city now as there once was, which means for a quieter atmosphere.....

Look around the streets of Manchester now and the kids in blue and white seem to equal the kids I'm red. The good times will come back.

10 minutes before kickoff against Hamburg in 2009. Stadium about 80% full, people singing with flags and bananas. Huge noise throughout the match.

4 or so trophies later, in another UEFA sanctioned tournament, 10 minutes before kickoff = stadium about 30% full, absolutely no sound (except Roma fans + obnoxiously loud music), no flags, no bananas, no passion...

I wonder how many of those fans in the Hamburg crowd (£5-£15 was it?) were also in the crowd tonight?

Definitely the case that it's young working class youth that create all the energy and dynamism in a crowd, but I can't ever see it coming back to football in the UK. It had its era, now it's just a case of spectating watching the finest sport in great surroundings with an occasional hint of what once was.

Wasn't there but all you could hear on tv were the Roma fans. Must be very inspiring for the players eh! Don't blame it all on tourists... If regular match goers bothered to go then the place wouldnt be full of randoms
That makes no sense, stadium was half empty. There was place for everyone. Fact is ''real'' City fans were pathetic.

That Hamburg game was one of the best atmospheres I can remember in the stadium... it was quality that night... s**t we even lost but I have fond memories

Problem with this evening was too many day trippers
Tannoy being blasted through drowning and killing any shred of atmosphere
No co-ordination or leaders... we sit in the Family Stand, there is one particular bloke in 134 who stands up and demands people join in - his enthusiasm is infectious. We should have designated leaders in each block, make it a badge of honour to be one, when they sing others join in... kill the tannoy and let the leaders take it on... it's not difficult you see the german and polish teams with leaders orchestrating the chants and getting everyone going

City intended to do that until fans on here decided it would be a bad idea. But songs spread from block to block, it's like a domino effect. With a person or persons in every block to knock one of the dominoes over, it might work. Or not. Either way, it was mocked and scorned, City ditched the idea. The atmosphere is now at an all-time low.

We have too many older fans set in their ways and refusing new ideas. Sorry, we do. If someone even suggests a drum for example, they are absolutely taken the piss out of on here. I'm not saying a drum would work or come across well, but the way I see it, 1 is better than 0 and we are pretty much at 0 now.

The Club needs to get some fans, many of them younger (not all teens and twenties, just people with open-minds and ideas), together in the ground IMO. In a place where they won't be shouted at, sneered at, not told to sit down and shut up. Remember the Citizens group? Another that was torn apart on here, yet they actually did create an atmosphere at one EDS game before disbanding.

I love what the 1894 Group are doing, but their reach is too limited. The Club HAS to involve itself and be proactive for anything to happen. There are people in every stand, every block, who would probably be at least open to the idea of singing if they weren't surrounded by such perverse misery.
