Attending my first ever City game on 26th Oct

The Co-op Live would be a good shout for you mate, they are displaying the PL trophy, world club trophy and community shield on Wednesday night before the Sparta game ..

Was thinking of giving it a try myself, £5 entry but you get that back in a voucher to spend on ale or food..
Won't be open as there is boxing on in the evening.

Make sure you’re got a half and half scarf or you won’t be allowed in.
I hope he's smart enough to know he should NOT buy one of those next Saturday.

The only half & half scarfs allowed say "City and United."

Quick heads up: you lot made me convince to go to the National Football Museum on Friday, and looking at the pub, I could then just have a walk in the park and check the Cathedral and/or some nearby pub. Someone mentioned the Sinclair Oyster bar, which based on the reviews, is quite a polarizing place. But I'd be nice to try out a beer I never tried yet. And on principle alone, I find the no-phone and classic old school policy interesting.

However, one review says you cannot pay by card, the other says you can... Can you? And even if you do, I guess not with your phone then? :D

(Or even on Sunday, since the museum is open on Sundays, but the library isn't. I don't even know why I am so adamant visiting the library, and already feel bad that I was accused of being posh on here, when I was only trying to be polite to take on the advice to visit the John Rylands too. :D)

City Arms pub on Kennedy Street, good atmosphere and selection of beers.
Well recommended.

Forgot to mention Chetham's Library, which is the oldest free public reference library in the English-speaking world, right next door to the Catherdal.

You have to book a tour in advance but it is a fabulous place to visit. It is the meeting place of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, when Marx visited Manchester in the summer of 1845

As others have said, from the Northern Quarter you can reach the canal via New Islington and then walk from there all the way to the Stadium. It's a nice and easy walk - if it's not raining.

Walk all the way to the Coop Arena (a slightly longer distance) and, when you get to the stadium, you'll be able to take in all the massive North Stand which is being constructed at the moment. Also convenient if you're using any of the entrances on that side (e.g. X - have a look at the stadium map on City's website).

Also - John Rylands library and the city library (the circular reading room on the upper floor is worth a visit - open on Saturday, but not Sunday).

If you have time to go to Salford (by tram), the Lowry museum is also good.

Food-wise - Rudy's and Double Zero (pizza), Rosa's thai, five guys for burgers (but I would avoid the one on Piccadilly Gardens - actually, I would avoid Piccadilly Gardens altogether - it's not particularly dangerous, certainly not during daytime, it's just messy and an eyesore).

I see a lot of people in the city centre on Saturday, it may be because of the Christmas Market - which makes everything around the Arndale shopping centre super congested.

Other than that, Manchester is a very walkable city (except for the pavement - no money to fix it!), people are friendly ... and hopefully it will be a good game. Enjoy it!

Yes, solo. Block 306, row AA, seat 160.

Thanks so much already for the so many posts and the lovely reception. :)

I will definitely think over whether I want to catch a flight from Liverpool/Birmingham on a Sunday, or rather do it on a Monday after. And yes, I've heard all the bad rumours about the trains and know something about the prices. And there are even direct flights with Ryanair, but I want to make that shitty Wizzair discount count... :D
Looks like you’re on the row where we (the wife and me) sit. Up in the gods, but a great view of what’s going on on pitch - excellent if you enjoy analysing the tactical aspects of the game. The big downside is the patchy atmosphere, though this can be the case in most parts of the ground, other than the South Stand (recall an occasion when I sat in CB, and the people around were right miserable gits). Consequently, I guess you’re unlikely to get the ‘full on’ City experience as you might in SS.

On a practical note, I imagine you’ll enter the ground through Entrance G. If so, possibly the easiest way to get to your seat is to use the aisle immediately opposite where you come out of the stairwell. Lots of first timers around this area of the stand get disoriented on their visit. We’re on the end of row AA (row numbers embedded in the concrete steps) so please don’t neck 5 pints immediately before the game as we’ll end up constantly having to stand up to let you pass on your way to the bogs! :) Say hello if you wish and enjoy your visit (fingers crossed for a cracking game!).

Arndale food market for decent food, Can take your own ale in as well.

Oh yes, you should see Chethams Library. The doors are amazing and the sense of history …wow. I also forgot to mention it. Well said @Gray :-)
