EXCLUSIVE: Man City want to buy Sturridge back from Chelsea

Manchester City are plotting a sensational bid to bring Daniel Sturridge back to the club after enquiring about the Chelsea striker’s contract situation.

Sportsmail has learned that City have been asked to be kept updated on developments regarding Sturridge's future.

The England international only left the Etihad Stadium in July 2009 after agreeing to join Chelsea following a contract dispute.

Sturridge's future at Stamford Bridge has been the subject of growing speculation in recent weeks.

The forward is keen to start negotiations over a new Chelsea deal, though the club are yet to call him in for formal discussions due to the fact he still has two years left on his existing contract.

And the 22-year-old is growing increasingly agitated at Andre Villas-Boas' decision to use him in a wide role, rather than his preferred central striker position.

News of his concerns have filtered back to his former club, who are now trying to manoeuvre themselves into a position to strike if Sturridge becomes obtainable.

Chelsea will offer Sturridge a new contract, which will include a significant pay-rise from his current £65,000-per-week package.

But City's decision to take a watching brief on how the situation regarding Sturridge's contract develops is an interesting development.

Roberto Mancini is a huge admirer of Sturridge and admitted this week that he found it 'strange' that City - who were managed by Mark Hughes at the time - let him leave.

And the Italian would jump at the chance at having Sturridge back at the club in the future.

However, City will not be the only in club for Sturridge if he becomes available. Sportsmail revealed last month how Arsenal are also keeping close tabs on Sturridge.

Would you have Sturridge back?

Would I f@ck. The next generation of over hyped, over pampered tossers who, because they can (wait for it) do a stepover in match, commentators literally jiz, and they think they are worth millions. He did absolutely nothing for us despite all the opportunities and still wanted £80k a week... Prize prick.

And whenever he gives the ball away which is often, he blames all those around him. Absolute epitome of a tossbag - he suits Chelsea very well.

Re: Would you have Sturridge back?

If he wants to play in the middle he should go to Arsenal. Chelsea should have given him a chance there though with Torres' wankness and Drogba's regular absences.

Mancini could develop him into a good winger/wide forward I think but he is unhappy playing there for Chelsea, and I don't know why as he seems good at it and is the only opposing player I can think of to tear Clichy a new one this season against us.

we have too many attacking options for him to get the playing time he covets. Even if Adam Johnson was sold, he wouldn't play a lot unless 2 (Carlos and one of our other 3) strikers left in the summer, IMO

Re: Would you have Sturridge back?

He's unhappy at chelsea for the same reason he was unhappy here and will be unhappy at every club he plays for after a year or two - his agent is a big time wanker that wants him to move so he gets a cut of the fee. I've nothing against Sturridge or Tevez for that matter, its their parasite agents that cause all the shit.

I foresee Tevez leaving in the summer, but then again, there's Guidetti.

Re: Would you have Sturridge back?

Sturidge for me is not a team player he has skill in abundance but is far to arrogant and greedy with the ball when sometimes the simple thing to do like pass is the best option is a goal. Yes he can still score goals but i think because of his greedy attitude the rest of our players would miss out on there goals because of him so i wouldnt mess up the great teamwork we have by bringing in a greedy arrogant player
