Manchester City face Inter this evening and it’s reported the key to bringing Mario Balotelli to England is sending Robinho to San Siro.
“The two clubs have not yet reached an agreement, but negotiations will continue,” confirmed President Massimo Moratti on Friday.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the way to reduce the €30m transfer is wrapped up in a high-profile loan.

Robinho has made it abundantly clear he does not want to return to Eastlands after rediscovering his form at Santos.

However, he could be convinced to give Europe another go with a Serie A switch to the reigning Champions League holders.

Robinho has an EU passport and his agent was reportedly spotted in Milan yesterday.

His inclusion would only shave a couple of million off Balotelli’s price-tag, but gives Inter a ready-made replacement and solves Man City’s problem with the rebellious Brazilian.

The transfer has also hit problems regarding SuperMario’s personal terms, as he seeks a five-year contract worth over £3m per season.

Meanwhile, the two clubs face off tonight in a friendly match in Baltimore, kick-off 1am UK time.

“Of course if Mario were to come with us we’d be happy to welcome him,” said Roberto Mancini’s new assistant manager Attilio Lombardo.

He will be on the bench this evening, as Mancini has flown back to Italy over a family issue.

“We are all convinced that Balotelli is a player of immense capabilities, a real champion who can change a game on his own.

“What’s more, someone so young arriving in an important League like the Premiership can be a great experience and opportunity to grow.”

Well there was also talk of him going to Benfica on loan but I remember somewhere that he pissed on Benficas chips a year or two back so that probably knocks that on the head which is a pity. Maybe we will say to Inter take him for 6 months we will pay his wages if you like him we can extend loan further or sell him for an agreed price, in return we buy Balo for the fee we have offered. If they don't want him he return to us in Christmas then it is basically sell to the highest bidder or just sit him in the reserves outside the 25 and let him rot.

That makes sense.. What the hell are you on Bluemoon? :)

Yes i know OT, but loans to Benifica either way could work too. We buy Luiz and loan him back for half or whole year or use the Robbie same deal.. 6 months trial period thing then in Jan we take him back or you buy him. The partial ownership of Luiz rules out a straight swap Robbie for Luiz I think.

Will be interesting to see our coaching staff's body language towards Balotelli if there is a chance they get near one another.

Manchester City are set to unveil Mario Balotelli to take their summer spending past the £100million mark.

The Inter Milan striker is on the verge of signing a five-year deal at Eastlands to complete his £24m switch.

Balotelli's arrival is likely to be confirmed today after he agreed a contract worth around £65,000 a week.

According to Italian newspaper Gazetta Dello Sport, Inter's legal chief Vittorio Rigo was in Manchester earlier this week to finalise the deal. He is expected to be joined by Balotell's agent Mino Raiola at Eastlands today.

In an interview with Gazetta, City boss Roberto Mancini said: 'Good players do well wherever and he can demonstrate his value in England.

'We are looking for a striker and he is one of the those we have been following. As a player I like him - I gave him his debut in Serie A because he has talent and like many of the Inter players I know him well.

'It's not true that he has a difficult character - at that age everybody has made mistakes. Mario is a good lad.'

Mancini has already signed £24m David SIlva, £28 Yaya Toure, £17m Aleksandar Kolarov and £10m Jerome Boateng this summer.

Despite Balotelli's volatile reputation in Italy, Inter team-mate Marco Materazzi has defended the youngster.

He said: 'When you are young you make mistakes. I think he has made mistakes becaue of his talent which has made him feel stronger than he is.

'But I believe he knows he has made mistakes because otherwise after our fight he wouldn't have texted me during the summer and said "Where are you big brother?"'

'I think we have reached the stage where it's better for everybody. Mario picked the agent he has because he believed he was going to leave Inter. Inter paid zero for him – it's a question of balance.

'However I'm sure that when he leaves (owner} Massimo Moratti will be heartbroken because he has always been his biggest fan and I'm sure Mario will cry as well the day he leaves.'

Quality.

Considering this Robinho-saga, he has 2 years left on his contract it seems. Let's say he goes to loan to Inter for a year. Who would then buy Robinho for anything near what City paid when he will only have 1 year left on his contract?
good point mate
