Manchester City face Inter this evening and it’s reported the key to bringing Mario Balotelli to England is sending Robinho to San Siro.
“The two clubs have not yet reached an agreement, but negotiations will continue,” confirmed President Massimo Moratti on Friday.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, the way to reduce the €30m transfer is wrapped up in a high-profile loan.
Robinho has made it abundantly clear he does not want to return to Eastlands after rediscovering his form at Santos.
However, he could be convinced to give Europe another go with a Serie A switch to the reigning Champions League holders.
Robinho has an EU passport and his agent was reportedly spotted in Milan yesterday.
His inclusion would only shave a couple of million off Balotelli’s price-tag, but gives Inter a ready-made replacement and solves Man City’s problem with the rebellious Brazilian.
The transfer has also hit problems regarding SuperMario’s personal terms, as he seeks a five-year contract worth over £3m per season.
Meanwhile, the two clubs face off tonight in a friendly match in Baltimore, kick-off 1am UK time.
“Of course if Mario were to come with us we’d be happy to welcome him,” said Roberto Mancini’s new assistant manager Attilio Lombardo.
He will be on the bench this evening, as Mancini has flown back to Italy over a family issue.
“We are all convinced that Balotelli is a player of immense capabilities, a real champion who can change a game on his own.
“What’s more, someone so young arriving in an important League like the Premiership can be a great experience and opportunity to grow.”
