I've just read in the ToryGraph that a fellow with a chip shop had put a mural on his chip shop wall 'n the council have been round and told him he has to paint over it 'cos it's advertising his shop and doesn't have planning permission. With both critical eyes I have denounced the Banksy shite as unwanted graffiti and the chip shop fellah's efforts as a work of art despite Islington Council declaring Banksy's daubings as the best thing since Leonardo painted the Mona LIsa.

It was in a conservation area where billboard advertising was not permitted and he'd already been told that it wasn't allowed. Just after free publicity.

Art has no intrinsic monetary value whether it’s a Vermeer or a Banksy. It’s just a few ££ worth of paint on a canvas or wall.

Banksy’s art is no more worthless than any other art.

Which is why “Banksy is arts Ponzi scheme” is meaningless. Either all art is Ponzi scheme, or Banksy is just like all other art.

But some art is pleasing to look at, it would be interesting to find out who decided the graffiti artist was worthy of merit and put his spray painted abominations on a pedestal.

The whole idea of the arts are different works from different artists meaning different things to different people.

It’s for nobody else to decide what something is worth other than the person buying it.

People buy art for an investment mainly, it's not because they salivate over their genius.
