Barry to Everton?

Reason he went is because of his amortisation fee rather than just wages. Milner, Rodwell and Garcia (in that order) can do his job and Barry costs £8.6m if he were to stay.
Do you save the amortisation fee if he's still technically your player?

I'd say so otherwise City would have wanted to cancel contract and Everton sign on a free-deal?

When you buy a player the fee is divided by contract length, so say £10m over 5 years, that's £2m. Then add the wages. That give the yearly fee.

Worst case scenario is that we are down on amortisation by £2m. Personally I am sure we will be relieved of total figure.

I doubt every player fee is split evenly over the length of contract.

Clubs can demand a certain amount up front with the rest paid over installments.

hi guys, genuine Toffee fan here (very much in peace!), just wondering what you guys think now Barry has left? Are you upset or pleased to see him go, do you think he will be a success at Goodsison? Also what do you think of Felliani going to United? Personally, whilst a good player for us, fee was very high and i'm not sure how well he will do overall.

I think you'll find City fans pretty split on Barry, who is a player with genuine strengths and weaknesses. I don't know how well he fits into Everton, but on the whole he's a very smart player with a tremendous willingness to show for the ball. If I will miss anything about him, it's how hard he works to ensure his teammates always have an outlet pass, which goes a long way toward allowing his team to maintain possession and makes his teammates really enjoy playing with him. He's generally pretty tidy with the ball and he can break up play relatively well. there are a lot of positives.

But there are also negatives. He's always been slow, but he's getting really slow. This was less of a problem in the PL, but really caused a lot of issues in the CL. Nonetheless, he really lacks for pace, which can be a problem if he's too isolated in the midfield. His passing tends to be simple, which is not a bad thing, but he's not overly likely to split the defense with a long ball.

In reality, he's just a really, really, really solid player. He's getting older and slower and probably wasn't at the level we aspire to be at anymore. I'm personally sad to see him go, as he really can tick the team over and provide a steadying influence in the midfield, but I recognize that we probably needed a bit more out of our midfielders at this point in our team's maturation. How he'll fare with Everton I can't really say, depends on the formation you guys play him in, but I could see him really excelling in a 4-5-1 with lots of midfield support.
Welcome Toffee......

KGB has got it spot on with Barry. For me he's been a brilliant servant for Manchester City and excelled in our championship winning season and has never caused us a moments problem.

I'm sure he'll be cheered to the rafters when he returns and will be forever immortalised as one of the main cogs in our championship winning team. On the downside he does suffer from a lack of pace and he isn't going to get any quicker as he gets older, but Barry is a wily character and knows how to read the game and position himself to make up for his lack of pace.

I'm gutted that he's left and as a testament to that I'd say the vast majority of City fans wanted him to stay for another couple of seasons as backup and to help the younger members of our squad like Rodwell as they take over Barry's mantle. Barry still harbours hope of going to Rio, and I personally think he could definitely do a job for England!!

The common consensus amongst most City fans is that before we dispensed with Barry's services, we should have jettisoned Dzeko, Kolorov, Lescott, Garcia and Sinclair (Who's already left on a season long loan to WBA) first. In short we've done you a massive favour and Barry will be a major asset to your team and club.

So one favour deserves a favour in return. That Barclay kid you've got and Seamus Coleman look tasty!! Any chance of first dibs if and when you decide to sell? :-)

One of the many things I will miss about old Gaz was his innate ability to get a foul out of a losing situation. He might lose the ball due to his lack of pace but he could usually somehow maneuver his body into a position where it looked like he was fouled and got a free for his trouble. Not diving; just by falling awkwardly. A true gift.

A very very smart player. He will be missed. All the best Gareth.

Seems a great lad. Been a very good buy and good value for money. Good luck Gareth.

Wasn't going to get first team football according to his interview on ssn........first mistake pellers and txixi have made clearly not raring what Barry brings to the team......and if they think Garcia can they are hugely mistaken.

All I hope is that they are thinking that rodwell or Milner can play that role

our worse piece of business for a long long time.

Do we have a single player that can defend intelligently in midfield now?

Pretty sure that's a no.........

I actually don't dislike Garcia (cue a shedload of abuse) but no one can play effectively in a 2 with Yaya. Barry managed it more often than not.
