Boateng to Bayern

tbh this is going to be another 10-14 million towards FFP in our favour that we weren't planning on having this summer. Could be colossal towards trying to break even, especially if Tevez stays and we don't cash in on him.
Hope it's more than that pal, don't forget we hold all the aces here

a he's young
b, he's on a long term contract
c, he's German which bumps his price up and makes him appealing for Bayern with homegrown quota's and the like
d, we don't need to sell

And we then spunk £17m on a carthorse like Cahill?

Economic madhouse if that happens.

To be honest, I expect us to bring in Cahill should this go ahead.

-- Tue Jun 14, 2011 6:43 pm --

it's a little easier to swallow with big cash coming in for an outgoing defender, though, considering we were in for Cahill before it looked like we were going to sell Boateng.

I don't have a problem with Cahill coming in if it happens - he won't be in the XI just by showing up, he'll have to earn it. I'm not going to pretend like I know if he's better or not than Vertonghen who I've only seen play once, but if we're buying a 3rd/4th CB I'd rather him be a no-nonsense type like Cahill.

The sale of Boateng is a very big mistake - almost as big a picking Jo instead of Bellamy.
Boateng is a very, very promising player. Already a German International, if Bayern are wanting him so badly, that tends to back this up.
He's been given no chance here. He's been injured all the time. I cannot believe we can keep players of such obvious inferior quality on our books like Kolarov and just let Boateng go without giving him the same opportunity.
I believe he and Kompany could be a dream partnership at CB. What's to lose? Lescott has been OK but isnt top four material and certainly not Ch League.
By buying Cahill - another of limited potential, we're just buying another Lescott.
At least Boateng promises more than ordinary..........

Ask Bayern for Schweinsteiger if we are sat round the table talking about Boateng. He would be a quality signing in the unlikely event of it happening.

we don't want to sell him, at least initially, but he wants to leave. No use keeping a player to stay against his will. Unless he scores 30 goals a season.
