Boateng to Bayern

I'm in the "Boateng should stay" camp.

I said on September 1st. that our transfer "team" had cocked up in signing Boateng as a full-back... he was never going to cut it in the Premiership in that position at our club.

But for all that he's a quality defender that we shouldn't just jettison on the basis of an less than impressive first season... when he has been injured for most of that time.

From the day we signed Lescott right up until about 2 months before the end of the season he was universally slaughtered on this site. According to many we should have got rid long before... we should have even given him a free to get him of the books!

Now he's top notch. As I always suspected he was.

Give players a chance. Don't judge on one season. You wouldn't expect a manager to be judged on one season, so why a player?

He's the perfect cover for Kompany, can slot in anywhere along the back four. He's our new Bobby Brightwell!

Following widespread reports on the possible signings of Manchester City's Jerome Boateng and Bayer Leverkusen's Arturo Vidal, Bayern Munich have issued official statements on their transfer targets.

Both players have expressed their desire to move to Munich, but are being held back by their respective clubs, who are reluctant to sell.

"Jerome Boateng insists on a move to Munich because he sees it as an outstanding opportunity," said Bayern sporting director Christian Nerlinger.

However, he explained that City's "utopian" demands are currently preventing the deal. The transfer fee requested is one that Bayern "by far are unwilling to pay."

Nerlinger added that should City refuse to lower their valuation, which is estimated to be in the region of €20 million, he is "very pessimistic that the transfer will be made."

Interest in Boateng

In terms of rebuilding the squad for the new campaign, the club is planning further signings in addition to the Japanese starlet. Nerlinger confirmed FCB's continuing interest in Germany international Jerome Boateng. The 22-year-old is currently at English Premier League club Manchester City. “Jerome Boateng is determined to come to Munich, because he thinks we offer an outstanding sporting perspective," the director of sport stated.

However, City are demanding a “utopian" fee for the player marked in for central defensive duties in Munich, “and we're absolutely not prepared to pay what they're asking," Nerlinger declared. If the English club refuses to budge, the FCB official said he was “very pessimistic about the possibility of a transfer."

I guess he will be staying then.......

Meet then in the middle at 15 million and I would be happy.

Rather he stayed but really we only want players here who want to play for the club.
