Rodri was absolutely dogshit though. Far too slow to process the ball and read. Ake was similar also.

It’s ok to look at a player in the context of a given season. The club doesn’t do this though and it’s a credit to our coaching and scouting.

We still can things wrong from time to time however.

Rodri's class was pretty evident early on to be fair.

We were just used to Fernandinho being a bundle of energy as opposed to what Rodri was/does/is in terms of exceptional reading of the game.

Lots of narrative bending going on in here to protect the "expert" status of some posters...rather than the reality that ya didn't know much then and ya still don't...

Rodri was never dogshit. His football brain and intelligence was always superb.

It's just some people weren't prepared to give him time to let him fit our style.

People just wanted him to be too similar to Fernandinho when he is a completely different player.

Rodri wasn’t shit, we exposed his one weakness in his early days which was lack
of pace. Pep has addressed it now we are a bit more pragmatic in our play and with a extra man from defence stepping into midfield but we used to play high risk high press leaving 1 on 1 at the back and we sometimes got done in transition when losing the 2nd ball and teams used to have success against us mainly Liverpool and Spurs. Many a memory of them on the counter at Anfield with Rodri chasing back like he’s running in treacle.

It was an urban myth that he was, he was a class footballer from day one but one that simply needed to get up to the speed of the PL and more importantly learn how to become the conductor of a Pep team.

I like this narrative changes that Rodri is never shit and he always shows promise in the past in the last few pages.

Back then nobody truly knows what will Rodri become, i fucking guarantee that nobody thought that he will become probably one of the best player right now whom also potentially winning next year ballon dor.

It's not just because his potential but also his mindset which is the most important thing for professional player to have for Rodri to become the player he known today, it doesn't matter if Rodri showing world class potential back then, if Rodri didn't have the right mindset all of his potential will be useless and probably being ridiculed constantly just like Philips.

Yes but the issue was as fans we wanted to win THAT year. It’s a fine line for club to allow room for a talent to grow.

Ake is another great example as in hindsight it’s very clear all he needed was minutes. But early doors sporadic appearances did him no favours and he was a weak link for his first 20 games probably.

WE probably waited too long to replace Fern but that's how we work as a club, we don't sign for the sake of it, we are prepared to wait for the right player , as long term we will be more successful.

We were somewhat forced to panic last summer with the signing of Nunes and so far he looks not up to it.
