Watching Koln v Union Berlin,Zweite Liga, atmosphere is fantastic.
Before the game im sure they sang a German version of The Bonnie Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond!

It's actually sung in cologne dialect and it's Cologne's club anthem.

Union Berlin's support wasn't bad either, even though the match was almost over as a contest after 30 minutes...

Drinking Kolsch I suspect at the same time. Thanks for the info, interesting about the dialect.

Ps Did Union used to have or still have a load of Hoolies that follow them, read it years ago I think?
Sorry Ruhr, cant open link at the moment but will have a look tomoz, match tonight.

yes, spot on - the only spoken language you can also drink: Kölsch :-).

Not sure Union have a large hooligan element amongst them, maybe Hertha and BFC Dynamo, but don't know tbh.

there was some police escort for a small Union group after the match - could well have been for their protection really.

That stuff is really good. I went to klon this summer for the gamescom convention and overall it was a fantastic place.

There are many Kölsch breweries, some are good (Gaffel or Früh for example), and some are crap. It's not very strong though compared to many other German beers.

these German fan videos are highly addictive, for me anyway. Have to say the smokebombs are extreme and could be a bit (a lot) scarey but they show up the fares dramatically. Would never be tolerated over here. The football seems to come second to having a good time and they work hard at it. I dont think having a guy with a megaphone or a drum would improve our atmosphere, the will just isn't there, maybe it's an age thing, or cheap seats or beer in the ground, i dont know but we are missing out that's for sure. Great to see the players joining in, surely it gives them an extra yard of pace, a bit more crunch in the tackle

there are a lot of jokes in the rest of germany about Cologne Kölsch beer and that it is served in a type of test tube. But they love it and Cologne has a sort of culture, that is different from the rest of germany anyway.

There are 8 or 9 different types of german beers and Kölsch (like Alt, the Düsseldorf beer) are not my favourite ones, but Blade is right, even i noticed differences in quality

Union has some hooligan groups, but not worse than other clubs. Other fan groups are causing more trouble at the moment.

Astra is a disgrace to German beer. I lived for years in Bavaria and they wouldn't use Astra for washing the dog's bowl in, foul stuff.

There are (or were) more breweries in Köln than any other city in the world as far as I remember reading.

that must be "were". Depends what you call a "Brewery" with that current trend of micro breweries just producing for the locals. Anyway, i think Bamberg has more these days and in history Dortmund was for some time the second largest beer producing city in the world (after Milwaukee), before the german beer industry went all the wrong way.

Apparently there are still 27 breweries who are allowed to call their beer "Kölsch", all of which must be in the Köln area. That would take some beating.
