Don't get me started on the England team ! Mind you I was actually there to see our one recent moment of glory, the 5-1 in Munich in 2001. What a night that was ! We've done f##k all since of course
We've got to change a lot to be winners, but this generation does not really match up to the last. Still I think at this world cup we either get to the quarters or go out in the group.

You talk about players that do not know the language nor the league - and are not top class or far over their prime in the EPL. Why should they be able to make it here - when they do not make it anymore there? Is it that stubborn believe that Sky somehow seems to implement that the EPL is superior?
Knowing the league and language with be best, but it is not a necessity and they are not many options like that about. Being past their prime is not a problem, because Schalke's biggest problem is not lack of quality. Schalke's biggest problem is lack of professionalism, belief, mental strength and leadership.

Take Lampard for instance even without the languge. He maybe past his best, but he will still spend hours after training practicing his shots. Someone like Draxler will see the sort of work he needs to put in reach the top of the game. Things like these will make a big difference off the pitch whether they speak the language or not.

Then on the pitch it will give the players that extra confidence and self belief. Players who will give everything and work hard in tough situations. It wasn't just the quality of the team that saw 10 men Chelsea come back from 2-0 down at the Nou Camp. It was mental strength and leadership. This is what Schalke needs at the moment. Schalke should be qualifying for the CL every year, making runs depending on the draw to the quarter finals of the CL and challenging for the domestic cup every season.

One of the first signings Mancini ever made at City, with all the money in the world, was a past his best Vieira. Ronaldinho is often credited for igniting the Barcelona renascence, but it was when they brought Davids in on January that they really became the force.

Dortmund are in a different situation and need top class players.

I did not realise Schalke had bought Aogo now.

Players can only make a difference when they are fit to play.

At Bayern Höjbjerg says his best friend would be van Buyten - and even if he does not play much anymore he is the model professional who works hard and takes care of the young ones. Pizzaro somehow is a parttime professional, too - but he functions the same - maybe not with eagerness in fitness but he is a big integration figure as he is part of the Schafkopf-Table with Müller, Lahm and Neuer - but equally is connected with all the Brazilians and the Spanish.

I know what you have in mind - but do not go with the persons you named. Schalke has had this figures with e.g. Metzelder who came with Raul from Real Madrid - but that just functions as long a player will be able to be atleast equal with the competitors for his position. There was a similar story with Ballack at Leverkusen... - that went wrong, too. And we talk about players that for sure know language and league.

It is easier with offensive players - but if you e.g. see that defensive or central players need atleast half a year to really be able to adapt to the teams - and you have the language problem - that is difficult for a player that is already to slow e.g. for the EPL.

Vieira knew league and language.

There is a risk with every transfer whether the player cost 90 million or 10 million. There is no guarantee that a transfer will succeed and that's why you have to talk to the individual player and assess the situation. You have to understand whether the player is moving for one last pay or wants one last challenge.

Raul did not know the league or the language and he was a great success. The same for Davids at Barca or to a lesser extent Carlvalho and Makelele at Chelsea. A lot of their influence will be on the training ground anyway. You need to judge the character right and make sure they are prepared to put the effort in.

Different players take different times to settle in, but you are right it is usually half a season, but there influence will be immediate. Just look at the positive impact Ozil's name alone had on Arsenal.

I think you underrating the players are listed and overrating the Bundesliga. Guys like Vidic, Evra and Cole are still better than the counterparts at Leverkusen and Schalke. In the case of Evra he never even gets injured. If I am honest I think Schalke would be aiming to high to get these players and they are just examples.

Wolfsburg lost 6-1, but they got their tactics spot on today. Their high intensity pressing game and then focusing on Rafinha's weakness defensively worked very well. Boateng was brilliant today and if it were not for him, Bayern could have been 3 or 4-1 down. Wolfsburg just were not fit enough to keep it up and when Bayern brought in some fresher players they took control of the game. Thiago supplying a great pass for as expected Muller to get the decisive goal. After the 3rd went in Wolfsburg disappointing gave up, but they were probably very tired.

Not seen any of the other goals, but Schalke bounced back well from their thrashings and at least Leverkusen stopped the bleeding with a draw. The race for top four looks increasingly like it will be just between Bayer and Wolfsburg, ironically the two company clubs. I wonder if Draxler will still be so keen to leave for Arsenal/Liverpool considering he would be leaving Dortmund for clubs in similar situations; the only difference would be the money. He is a Schalke fan so he should probably give it another year or two.

Good to see Werner and Meyer being given a rest it will do their future development the world of good. Also nice to hear Zorc say that Dortmund must do more to stop Bayern. Hopefully they loosen the purse strings. Interesting to hear De Bruyne say Chelsea would not sell to Dortmund. De Bruyne is the kind of player they need so hopefully they bring one in.

Wolfsburg are a decent side, they edged it for the first hour certainly, but Pep rested quite a few yesterday and that may have had something to do with it.

Müller said last night in an interview that that often happens with Bayern's opposition, they simply can't keep up that frantic pace for 90 minutes, Wolfsburg started superbly but were shattered by the end.

Looks like the morally bankrupt twat Uli Hoeness could really be in the shit. Yep the Bayern president who spouts all sorts of crap at city for spending money is up for trial this week for, get this, tax evasion to the tune of £2.6 million.

Unfortunately for the two faced **** he's been caught squirrelling his profits from stocks to a Swiss bank account for years and could face 10 years in nick. Also bad news for the dodgy fuck is the judge presiding over the case is Rupert Heindl is nicknamed Judge Merciless.

Those who live in glass houses shouldn't wank downstairs.

Dortmund fluked a win with a wonder goal from Kehl. They got a picture of what things would be without Lewandowski, Reus and Gundogan. It was not pretty. The lack of technical ability was very apparent. They really need to spend properly and buy wisely to replace Lewandowski. Mkhitaryan tries hard, but he does not seem to have it. If Liverpool or Tottenham come in for him would be wise for them to let him go. Gundogan may stay a season, but if he does not sign then best to get rid.

New TV spot in Germany - topic inner strength...

Joe Hart is not shown catching a shot from Müller - but from Messi. Maybe that is a sign for Wednesday night...

I have not found the TV spot for England. Is it already out? Is it just with Messi and Hart or do they show other players in it, too. In that world wide Gillette campain a couple of players are in like e.g. Suarez and Agüero. I cannot see Müller shooting a goal in an English advertising... (would be too much reality...)

There is another TV spot out without Messi and Hart. Could even be that this is the one they show in Austria or the German part of Switzerland.

Joe Hart is not really known in Germany - a lot people will think he is just a model. Else who in Germany believes there is good English goalkeepers... ;)

I have not yet seen the Gilette campaign for England. As you said I doubt Muller would be in it, probably just Messi and Hart will look out for it.

Muller is probably extremely underrated here. People know him, but he is not flashy and so will never get the attention of some others.

Harry Winter today portraits him as a role model for the English FA on the search for players/talents. He painted his character and mentality pretty good. But as we already had it - it is not typically German but maybe typically this guy. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-latest-Champions-League-success-beckons.html

Good article, but if anything it shows even he underrates Muller. Muller is not on the level of the likes of Willian, Nasri and Navas; he is much better than them. He is up there with the very best in the world and has such a great mentality. Considering he is just 24 he would be in the top 3 players I would sign given a choice out of anyone.

I like to think i have a sense of humor :P

I went to watch Union Berlin play with some friends for my brother's stag do. It was something I will never forget! It was like a party atmosphere with heavy metal music blaring out before the game.
Also drinking and smoking in the terraces helped!!

I wonder what the reaction to yesterday's match was with the Bayern fans.

Yesterday also shows exactly why Schalke and Leverkusen should take a long hard look at themselves. Fair enough that Leverkusen do lack quality, but the Schalke team is stronger than the one Arsenal put out against Munich. Not just yesterday, but both games.

In what way ? If you mean were they satisfied with the performance then on the whole yes. There are plenty games coming up and there was no need to go hell for leather for a big win yesterday.
