I honestly think if someone is trying to break into your property in an attempt to endager your life then you should be able to take what ever means necessary to prevent them from doing so.
Exactly. You know the drill though, this guy will get sent down and his life ruined - all because some thieving little **** couldn't be arsed getting a job to pay for his own stuff. Fuck him, I hope it hurt.
Bang on the money mate, backwards this country.

What the fuck was he supposed to do, open the fuckin door for them and make them a brew?

My understanding is that more will come out as to WHY the people were entering this address and the gentlemen who committed the stabbing.

Off topic rivals the Daily Mash without even realising it.

The moment I heard this story this morning, I knew there would be an immediate off topic response and I knew it would be typically people venting their reactionary spleens about their own "Well if it happened to me, I'd ...." fantasies.

Thanks for keeping me entertained whilst the real story unfolds. Particularly the "A mate of mine told me..." jackanory's.
1. That's how people would react.
2. I don't fantasise about wrapping a snooker cue round a burglars head, it's just what I would do in that situation.
3. Why wouldn't the 'jackanorys' be true?
4. What would you do, welcome the burglar in for a sing song of kumbayah?

That is my understanding also.

Just been on BBC news. Police are now treating this as a murder enquiry. The homeowner has been arrested on suspicion of murder and his son and a woman, also in the house, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

I find it disgusting.
I wouldn't read too much into that; it will be standard procedure in a case like this.

People talking about America are missing the point

I'd you are a meth addict, you arm up and go on the rob for anything

It's addicts that take the extreme risks.

I think he should be put in jail.
Although I think you should be able to defend your property and damage the person in doing so you shouldn't be allowed to kill them unless it's kill or be killed.

I don’t think there would be time to have a debate about it tbh!

“Hi , So you have broken into my house, are you going to harm anybody or just steal all my belongings that’s I’ve worked hard to put in the house?”

Re: Burglar stabbed to death, Manchester

The law as it currently stands is the use of reasonable force in the circumstances.

The people who judge whether the force used is reasonable are members of a jury who are homeowners like you and me. People who are perfectly able to understand the fears that we all have.

If a jury thinks that killing someone was reasonable in the circumstances you will walk.

I fail to see how anyone can argue against that system.

1. Actually people don't know how they would react until they are faced with a given situation, they just think they do.
2. Ok.
3. Because these stories about the police coming back to arrest the victim like they take some sort of perverse satisfaction in warping natural justice tend to be utter rubbish.
4. Without getting drawn into an hypothetical fantasy about what I'd do, I'll say that I would use no more than reasonable force necessary in the given circumstances. Don't try and make me out to be a lilly livered yoghurt knitter mate. I have a sounder knowledge of lawful self defence than most on here.

Oh and Pigeonho I actually like what you post, I just think these threads are amusing.Nothing personal.

There's not much to debate. He is either trying to steal your stuff and so you knock him out or whatever or he has a knife and is now trying to kill you so you kill him first.
