Can they ever be caught?

The rags were way off the dippers pre prem era so yes they can be caught. We just have to have several dominant eras. This season suggests we might be starting our first.

The days of Manure only having to worry about one other team in any given season - Liverpool (at the end of their glory days), Arsenal ( Petit, Bergkamp and our own Patrick), Chelsea (when RA arrived), and yes Blackburn (with Jack Walker's fun fund) have long gone. It's more of a level playing field now with at least fifteen multi-billionaire owners of clubs - some in the Championship. So when Manure fans say 'come back when you've won 20 titles and multi Champions Leagues' they're not comparing apples with apples. We're striving to create modern history in a more competitive environment.

In essence, history is fine, but for me there is no better time than the here and now, and here and now we're regularly destroying a Manure team picked from a half a billion pound squad - with a VERY young squad and team. God forbid, if I was a Manure fan, I wouldn't take an ounce of comfort in past Manure success on an uneven playing field - success now becoming a distant memory. I would feel crushed that a team in blue is playing the best football in the history of the English game - with grit, style, flair, skill, elan, panache, passion, pace, resilience the lot.

Exactly.

I do find it frustrating (is probably the best word) that supporters of other clubs try to give it out that City have no history because it is usually born of ignorance. So I find it slightly disappointing when our own supporters don't know a bit more about the history of other clubs. Not that I would win any prizes; however, I have fifty years of following the game to my name and as a lad I owned a few books that covered the history of the game and listed who won what season by season in this country, which I loved to study. I wish I'd kept them all.

One bit of history I find interesting is the all-time league table for the top flight; especially when adjusted to eliminate the difference caused by the three points for a win era i.e. all done at two points for a win. City sit sixth in the adjusted table, behind Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Rags & The Vile. Spurs and Chelsea jump above us on actual points gained due to the 3 point era which saw us spend too long outside the top flight. Bottom line on that though is don't let anyone tell you we are not a big six side ;-)

I too have been following footy for 50-odd years. Even though they haven't done much recently, I still think of the likes of Wednesday, Villa and Wolves as big clubs with a rich history. And I'd be very happy to see them back in a good place again. It's sort of "where they belong".

So history does count. More important, though, is what you are doing currently and what trajectory you are on.

I'd never bait anyone about istree except the two obvious candidates. And that would be because their sheer fcukin arrogance deserved it.

I'm fine if they compare apples to oranges. They know deep down that their best days are behind them. That can't be much fun. When they bring up the "come back when you've won 20 titles" schtick, I just say, "So you'll be completely fine if City win the next 15 in a row then? I wouldn't think any real United fan would be pleased if the little club cross town did that, but I guess it's okay with you."

Updated, now level with the mighty Spurs.

I think we take that victory on league titles.

Next up, Chelsea.

Doubt we can but it doesn’t bother me at all. It’s the here and now that counts.

We’re the young lad turning up to the office party with a smoking hot girlfriend. They’re the sad old dude in the corner boring everyone with stories of girls he used to date.

Although trophy winning is the most important aspect regarding the assessment of how successful a club may be, however there are others such as hype, spin and marketing. For example most of the best restaurants n the world cannot compete in terms of popularity with say McDonalds.

I think with the foundations being built it can be beaten but it will take many years.

For now lets just enjoy winning as much as we can.

Villa have one one title in the past 100 years for a bit of perspective , correct me if I’m wrong but weren’t there only 12 teams in the league when they won it numerous times in the late 1890’s ? Coincidentally they also won the fa cup a lot around that time, different league then totally.
