In essence, history is fine, but for me there is no better time than the here and now, and here and now we're regularly destroying a Manure team picked from a half a billion pound squad - with a VERY young squad and team. God forbid, if I was a Manure fan, I wouldn't take an ounce of comfort in past Manure success on an uneven playing field - success now becoming a distant memory. I would feel crushed that a team in blue is playing the best football in the history of the English game - with grit, style, flair, skill, elan, panache, passion, pace, resilience the lot.The days of Manure only having to worry about one other team in any given season - Liverpool (at the end of their glory days), Arsenal ( Petit, Bergkamp and our own Patrick), Chelsea (when RA arrived), and yes Blackburn (with Jack Walker's fun fund) have long gone. It's more of a level playing field now with at least fifteen multi-billionaire owners of clubs - some in the Championship. So when Manure fans say 'come back when you've won 20 titles and multi Champions Leagues' they're not comparing apples with apples. We're striving to create modern history in a more competitive environment.
That’ll be quite a football supporting career!I'm just 23 so I'm hoping to see it in my lifetime!
Exactly.
I do find it frustrating (is probably the best word) that supporters of other clubs try to give it out that City have no history because it is usually born of ignorance. So I find it slightly disappointing when our own supporters don't know a bit more about the history of other clubs. Not that I would win any prizes; however, I have fifty years of following the game to my name and as a lad I owned a few books that covered the history of the game and listed who won what season by season in this country, which I loved to study. I wish I'd kept them all.
One bit of history I find interesting is the all-time league table for the top flight; especially when adjusted to eliminate the difference caused by the three points for a win era i.e. all done at two points for a win. City sit sixth in the adjusted table, behind Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Rags & The Vile. Spurs and Chelsea jump above us on actual points gained due to the 3 point era which saw us spend too long outside the top flight. Bottom line on that though is don't let anyone tell you we are not a big six side ;-)
