Can we afford to let Barry go?

Barry made 41 appearances last season. In 90% of those he was varying degrees of good to excellent.

In 10% of his appearances he had absolute stinkers. The games we lost at Everton and Southampton helped kill off our league campaign, the result at Ajax was a catastrophe for our CL campaign, we lost the FA Cup final.

When he had a bad game we got stuffed, mainly because our opponents targeted him.

I would have preferred to have kept him as a squad player if the finances worked. But we couldn't have solved our current midfield problems by keeping him as a regular starter. Everton can live with his 10% stinkers, we can't.

Take Cardiff and Stoke and the first half of Hull and we have already had 10 percent stinkers - for the entire season -within 4 games

At the very least it's one more set of fans who understand there is more to Barry than that one Germany game. I do think he was on the decline with us but damn he offered us something hard to replicate.

Looks like he had another good game for Everton today - funnily enough in the sort of game he often made little difference in for City (the away day banana skins).

If you look at his stats during almost every game with City they are comparable to that. The problem is that its easy to not notice what he does for the team, which is why when we struggled he is an easy target for the fans. The games where it was tight are arguable to games where Barry did his best work, its not just tight because we haven't scored its also tight because we haven't conceded.

tomorrow is a huge day for fernandinho - these are the games you just knew you'd get a performance from barry

This is what worries me, i'd play Yaya pushed on and bring Milner into midfield with Fernandinho.

I am not disagreeing with you but it is a poor reflection when we require an additional player within our midfield to assist our 30 million pound signing in an area of the pitch we have consistently dominated United over the last couple of years.

So much money wasted, which would have been better served improving other areas of the team. That is not a criticism of Fernandinho just our transfer policy.

Yeah i understand what you mean, different story now imo cause Fellaini will start tomorrow and i'm also basing it on the fact Fernandinho hasn't got up to speed with the league and yaya is often lazy and Fernandinho has double the work to do, and he'll get over run.

Free Yaya up, give Milner and Fernandinho room to work and we'll stop supply to RVP at the same time. Stop that, and you stop United and 70%
of their attacking threat.

I'd play Milner on the right tomorrow, always good against the shite, especially negating Evra's runs.

He's simply not good enough to play centrally against a top 6 team though.
