Can we afford to let Barry go?

He isn't the answer....

Problem is the answer may now have to wait until January!
Maybe. I'm still of the opinion we should move to a 4-3-3. Would solve a lot of ills.

I agree about going 4-3-3 but that could mean playing only one of Aguero, Negredo and Dzeko; unless Kun will play out wide. I would like to see how a front three Jovetic, Aguero and Navas fares.

To me this is the way we have to go. 2 strikers is leaving us open in the midfield because we are now playing with width. Last season we were very narrow and that made it easier to defend even though we played with 2 strikers. Plus Tevez was 1 and he would do a lot of work getting the ball back that Dzeko doesn't do, and neither does Aguero. Since Navas is hugging the touchline and Zab is real wide as well there is more space in the midfield, which is getting taken advantage of by our lack of pressing the ball by Silva, Yaya and the 2 strikers. Take 1 off and bring in Rodwell or Milner so that Yaya and Dinho can go forward more.

Nothing to gain letting Barry go. Nobody is talking about buying him but a loan deal. So we aren't going to get any money just his wages, or part of his wages off the books. When we are in the CL he'll be a good choice so Yaya can be rested.

In Europe I don't think we can rely on Barry, but in the PL we need him for certain situations, mainly away games.

I don't know what it is with the English PL and foreigners in away games, but without a good set of English lads in your team on the road results are very hard to grind out.

you mean just like Barry did last season away at St marys and Woodison
Barry was fvcking woefull in both games

MP has had enough chances to look & clearly is not impressed by Barry. If he cannot get in the squad for Cardiff or Hull it is difficult to see where he will figure. Unless we are keeping him in case we draw Accrington in the FA Cup. Definitely would not get in against Wigan as we all remember how he cost us the final in May.
So the answer is YES.
wow first he cost us the southampton game now the cup final !! the 2 games i watched we were shit to a man and deserved to lose both .looking back maybe we didnt play our part as fans chanting for a manager who was clearly disliked by the players but its only come to light since.maybe we should have got behind the team like we did at the semi ?

so funny...he,s outstanding against the champions of england at old trafford in April, a few days later again looks the business against Chelsea, champions of europe ..now, 12 weeks later he,s only worth picking " if we draw Accrington in the FA cup".....really.?

One of the most consistent performers this club has ever known. Brought by Hughes, yet retained by Mancini, under whom he improved markedly as a player, easily adopting the Italians completely different tactical outlook on the game, to an extent where if Barry was fit under Mancini, he played.

Still remember his performance at Wolves when, after utd fucked up at home to Everton, he bossed the midfield and didn,t allow the home side any room what so ever to play, snapping into tackles, marking space and pressing so hard that the determination on his face said only one thing..i want that title winners medal.

Players like Barry will always be under-appreciated by the majority of football fans, esp. those who have never played the game.. i hear folk on here wax lyrical about kinkladze and such like, a player who never turned up away from home and wouldn,t know what teamwork was if it hit him in the face.

Its funny because every single previous manager that Barry has played for has seen fit to pick him for EVERY game.At Brighton, Villa and at City ...Benetiz at Liverpool was gutted not to persuade him to join the red scouse when he left Villa..to such an extent that he made some bitter comment in the press about him choosing money over history ...thats how pissed off a top manager was when he couldn,t get his hands on Mr consistent.

When he joined us i recall reading a Villa fans comment.." You wont notice Barry that much when he is playing...the second he is out of your team you will notice straight-away"

I understand that last comment completely now.

If any of this was fact we would have had 18 teams in for barry as everyone knows he is available

strange then that Neverton are the only club who are in for this great team player and they don't actually want to buy him

seems that most managers in the premiership disagree with your glowing write up of Barry but what do they know ? posters within this forum know how to spot a good player even if 17 Premiership managers disagree

Barry is a very poor passer of the ball and one of the slowest players in the premiership and its time the deluded few bluemoon posters faced these facts

-- Mon Sep 02, 2013 8:03 pm --

You have no idea how many Premier League managers enquired.

Barry's wages and desire to still play at the top level will have meant the majority of Premier League clubs weren't suitable. Add this to the fact he's 32 and won't go on for ever and he's not the most attractive transfer target.

However, that doesn't mean he shouldn't be kept, it doesn't cost us anything to keep him, expect another year's worth of wages, but we'll be sorry we let him go if we do, it'll leave us with no top quality, true holding midfield player.

Oh, and for what it's worth, his passing accuracy for last season was 87.2%, if that makes him very poor in your mind then you have extremely high standards.

Unless someone like De Rossi is lined up, it'd be a big mistake to let Barry go now. Since Nige left, he's the only player we have with the necessary experience to come on and close a game out, if we're in front, in the latter stages.

Could the deal be hinging on city being insistent that any Barry deal would include toffees being unable to sell fellaini to utd? Would be ridiculous if we were to loan everton a player to fill the void left by a player moving to make our rivals stronger. Almost 'typical city' one might say.....

Good point.

Talk of subsidising Barry's wages at Everton must also be bollocks. Everton are hanging on for more money for Fellaini. i dont want Barry to go but we should at least insist on a reasonable transfer fee if he does go .

I'd imagine it will have to be a gentleman's agreement, I'm pretty sure this couldn't be legally written into a loan contract.

Agree about subsidising the wages, I'd guess this is the main issue. Everton want a loan but City want a sale. I don't want him to leave at all but if he is to go it has to be a sale, we're not desperate to get rid, or shouldn't be, so a subsidised loan, hell, even a loan, makes no sense to me.
