The fact that a 24 year old Boyata, who is appallingly bad, is getting minutes before any of the youth is damning.

A 36 year old Lampard is still playing instead of any youth players.

We have essentially sewn up the top 3 now, what is the purpose in staying loyal to older players who won't be here next season? We're in a bad way re: Youth currently.
But we weren't guaranteed top 4 before Spuds so your comment makes no sense.

Mathematically you're right but we were 6 points ahead of Liverpool with a game in hand and only 3 match days left...

According to some on here no youth player can ever play in any game because the risk is too high. Arsenal blooded Fabregas at 17 and started him against United in the Charity Shield, they didn't loan him to Lille/Celtic/PSV for seasons on end until one day he was just "ready" to stroll in to the first team. Rooney/Gerrard examples too, it's about time we blooded some of our own. Is Boyata a better player than Denayer or Rekik? No. Is Lopes a better squad option than a Sinclair or Dzeko/Jovetic who've had shocking seasons? Yes. As Damocles said, we would be better of spending strategically on big first team players and utilising the youth for squad numbers rather than spending millions on squad players like Fernando.

Bang on the money.

Arsenal and Wenger has a 19 year head start over us in terms of youth development.

could do no harm putting some on the bench, anyone who can play CM would be useful or barker and put milner into CM. priority is finishing 3rd as avoid the playoff for CL and also get into 2nd group for the draw(only chelsea will be in 1st group with new system, 2nd/3rd in group 2 and 4th in group 3).
southampton game we could start angelino and have 3 youth players on bench assuming 3rd place is confirmed and 2nd is looking unlikely

There are arguments both ways on this issue but the overbearing one is Sheikh Mansour's desire to see City become prominent players in the Champions League. To achieve this we need the best talent available, but with a 17-4-4 squad system (or limitation), and with HG players being outrageously expensive, or just not good enough, then we have no option but to get at least four of our younger players up to the required standard which will only come through game time. Failure to do this may not prevent us from bringing the Premier League title back again, but the possibility that we will fail in Europe again will not give our manager of the day much of a feeling of security.

I'm hoping that at least three of our 25 man squad will be allotted to youth team players next season.

This should mean in the league they are guaranteed to get at least bench time during the season and potential starts when injuries and suspensions bite.

In the cups I'm hoping that all three are guaranteed starters.

1 defender, 1 midfielder , 1 forward

Denayer (Rekik) , Lopes , Ihenacho

All three look to have talent, this will send a message to our up and coming kids that you will get chances if you are good enough.

If this doesn't happen next season I would question the clubs commitment to developing young players

A couple of good points there.

The HG rule needs to be planned for but current manager can disregard that because he is unlikely to plan for the next manager.
Secondly I think the new rule may force our player buying policy to be more selective regarding non complying players which in our case may be a good thing.
Thirdly, perhaps a glimmer of hope for our Academy players that they may have a chance to get PL football with City as the HG rule emerges and they will compete with the best qualifying players not worldwide players.

Why?

Just because we built a new building doesn't mean that the old one didn't exist.

??
we've always had a youth team , one of the best in the country for producing players for a few years i.e. sturridge, johnson. Apart from gibbs and wilshire arsenal haven't really produced anyone else. Arsenal dont have a head start at all we've produced more and better quality players imo for a few years now.

As top 4 club they have been producing and blooding their youth players a lot longer.
