Car driving standards

If every driver drove to the Highway Code, the roads would actually work, and road deaths would be practically eliminated.

The problem now is that too many drive to the 'MyWay Code'. It's an alarming stat if you break it down, but every single road death (of which there are 5 per day on average) costs >3 Million to the taxpayer, which equated to BILLIONS a year.

I bought three copies recently - two years apart to accompany me on my speed awareness course. I'm the Erling Haaland of Speed Awareness Courses - I've a hat trick of 'em. Just be mindful of yer speedo in Gtr Manchester, South Yorkshire 'n Lincolnshire!
Drivers like you are a nuisance to us law abiding careful considerate drivers…….it’s not big and it’s not clever

They aren't hard hitting enough. People who have to deal with the aftermath or RTC's on a regular basis often suffer with severe PTSD later in life. Some crashes have horrific consequences. The stuff they show on SA courses is tame in comparison.

They should include a test at the end that you have to pass.

People would have to listen then.
I also think they should include some of the drivers awareness course as part of the National driving test. I've also been on a couple of other ' Drive and Survive ' type courses....also very good and you learn things that they just dont think about on the national test.

What is it with people who break down on the motorway and then all get out of the car (the entire family including kids) and stand at the side of the car open to traffic, rear, front, anywhere but the opposite side of the crash barrier. See the occurrence regularly on the M62 around Bradford, Dewsbury, Batley area. This is the same spot which is frequented by people driving modified BMWs and Mercedes weaving through rush hour traffic with no regard for anyone’s safety.

Watching those dash cam videos that are posted on YouTube, some of the jokers out there couldn't drive a hard prick into a bucket of lard.

Just bought a Cooper S a few months ago, the amount of techie shite and electronic wizardry that is totally unnecessery is amazing, and mainly pointless. Apart from going like shit off a shovel it would suit a 12 year old.
I don't have a car, but I used to rent them quite a bit. By the time you've worked out how to connect your phone to the radio, you've got to give it back.

When I went to buy our Mini the guy gave us the keys as told me a route to drive.....I returned 5 minutes later and he asked what it was like....I replied I hadn't clue as I couldn't get it started. Had to press in the clutch and the brake at the same time then press the start button, the keys meanwhile could be anywhere.

Yep, the stupidest thing car manufacturers can do is get rid of tactile buttons. So dangerous to force people to look at a touch screen. Those Teslas look like they've had a 32" TV gaffer taped to the dashboard.

They’re cheaper than proper buttons as manufacturers can make physically identical dashboards across model ranges instead of installing different wiring looks and switches depending on what the customer specs.

The marketing team then try and spin it as a “high tech” feature.

They’re hateful. I’ve had a lot of different cars over the years, including some modern ones. They’re getting worse and worse and almost all new cars are just soulless disposable appliances, which is one of many reasons I now drive an old Land Rover.

I’ve been saying that for years.

Problem nowadays is that new drivers don’t actually read/learn the Highway Code - they simply complete an on-line test which has multiple choice answers.

The number of driver’s who approach roundabouts in the wrong lane is scary. It’s astonishing how many people don’t know that if you're taking the third exit or beyond, you should be in the right hand lane.

One of my nephews who has been driving for 2-years told me he wasn’t taught how to turn right at a main junction - and I’ve heard this from other drivers who’ve been taught to drive within the last5 years or so.

Even the instructors don't know it. My kids were (incorrectly) taught to indicate right approaching a roundabout to go straight on.
