Car Insurers you are a DISGRACE

They’re banking on people being lazy and auto renewing.

Mine was £290 last year, quoted £420 by the same company.

Shopped around, found £285, rang my existing company to cancel and they asked what I’d found and they matched the £285 quote with no questions asked.

Gonna try 50p next year.

I still feel like there should be trading standards that prevent them from doing this. There's no reward for loyalty, because like you say, they can make a fortune auto-renewing for double the price near enough and people too lazy to bother checking.

It's not one company doing it either, I've had to change mine every year often going back and forth between them because they rip you off through auto-renewal but are competitive for new customers.

I just cancel my DD online when the last payment of the annual policy has been taken out, that usually prompts some kind of response.

On another note the thieving bastards at the DVLA ripped me off for Road Tax. I sold a van to my mate, we settled on the 1st July, I did the vehicle transfer online. As it was a monthly DD my payment was taken on the 1st, my mate also paid from the 1st July, no problem I thought, I'll get a refund. It said on the website it can take 6 weeks to come through. Forward 7 weeks later the refund of £29 has not come through, I rang them, they told me I'd not transferred to vehicle until around 8am in the morning and therefore I was liable for a month's tax as I owned the van for 8 hours during July. I told them my mate had taken ownership from midnight of that date and insured the vehicle accordingly, that didn't matter one bit to the twat at DVLA.

If anyone gets involved in selling under the same circumstances just Sorn the vehicle before midnight on the last day of the month and ensure the new owner taxes it from the first day of the following month.

Just for the record, mine is due on 26 October so I took the advice and got early quotes. I'm currently with 1stCentral and last year I paid £350, which was actually about £70 LESS than I paid Hastings the previous year.

I first tried one of the comparison engines and the cheapest renewal this year was Hastings, at £531 with £400 excess. I then asked my current insurer and they came back with £400, £50 more than last year but it's a lot less than I was expecting and £130 less than the cheapest price comparison quote.

Out of curiosity I'll redo the price comparison thing closer to the date to see how much it changes.

Yes, DVLA are another bunch of scammers in my opinion, not least because they make a lot of money selling your details on to private parking companies so they can bill you for parking "offences". So much for our privacy.

Last year some twat on a motorbike (scooter) damaged my wing mirror deliberately. Reported it to the police. Not interested. Asked the DVLA for his address so I could send him the bill. Refused to give it to me. So they can't do that yet they can sell your details to a private company who are only in it to make money. I honestly have no problem with those who break the law and buck the system, because when it's as corrupt as this it's the only way to fight back.

Why did he damage you mirror deliberately? Were you blocking him from filtering?

My insurance is due on one of the cars, gone up from £370 last year to £500 this year with RBS. Just been on Confused, can get it for £378, same level of cover, same excess plus a £20 Sainsbury's voucher thrown in. Thats with Aviva which I must say surprised me as they are usually quite expensive for cars which are a bit higher theft risk.

Holiday Insurance.

Have 30% off as you used us last time £46 with discount.....also used Meerkat and they were (Admiral) £8 pounds cheaper than with Admiral & their 30% discount.

Rip off fuckers.

Hopefully their car department is better than their house insurance. Aviva are the biggest set of cunts I've ever had to deal with in regards to claiming for something. Heard their life insurance is even worth once you pop your clogs so moved that elsewhere.
