Cashless society

'The Powers That Be' have noted your opinion ;)
I like reading dystopian books and im reading one at the moment where all hate speach, opinions that dont conform etc are illegal and can effect credit scoring, employment etc. the books a bit fun really , but like 1984, we should surely question things ?
25/30 years ago there was no such thing as cancel culture , hate speach etc. but there is now!

So lets take that someone above said “im sure that ‘they’ dont care if i buy a tesco meal deal. But what if in the future buying a beef butty , and its green connotations, is frowned upon and affects how you are seen by ‘them’?

Worst thing that happened was contact payments in pubs.

When I used to hand over a £20 note, I knew the value of that.......now all this tap tap tap malarkey, it's too easy to spend money
Also, in a pub, when they say "5.60" or whatever, how many of us actually check the amount on the card thing??

Oh yeah - and with ATM's disappearing from the high street, what also gets on my tits are these cash machines in corner shops etc that charge me £2.75 (or whatever) to draw some money out

I get a notification on my phone the second I make a payment. If it’s not right I’d just mention it at the bar.

It's usually conspiracy theory nutcases who get their knickers in a twist about digital transactions.
I've almost gone cashless, but have reverted to cash transactions at small businesses who are impacted by transaction fees on their "sum up" contactless machines.
When asked "cash or card" I now usually ask the business owner "what do you prefer"?

Nothing "conspiracy" about being tracked from A to Z and having your money stopped whenever it's decided.

Just ask Canadian truckers over the pandemic period, Mr West and Mr Tate.

Former prime minister Blair has been trying to enact these processes for years.

I, rarely, carry money but I'd like the choice.

If the government wants a cashless society it will get one.

All it has to do is declare cash valueless after a certain date. As cash has no inherent value (bar things like gold sovereigns) that chest of tenners under the bed would then become useless, except as a substitute for bog paper or as firelighters.

That's the reality. If people believe the government is evil, it's no use imagining they will allow workarounds.

5 years ago i was issued with a £7k tax bill that i knew was wrong. They hounded me, asked me to provide my outgoings and worked a figure they wanted each month to clear the ‘debt’ that would leave me with £0 a month to spend after bills. Yes , zero pounds. Thats how they wanted me to live for 5 years

Luckily my accountant is shit hot. Whilst it was quite literally causing me massive mental health issues she cracked on and sorted for me. Guess what, they owed me £250. Took them 2 years to pay me too.

I wouldnt and dont trust ‘them’ as far as i can throw them and i wont on any level.

So yeah, if people are happy for ‘them’ to follow there every move without thinking theres an ulterior motive, ultimately , good luck
@Bluesince1979 sorry to hear that and glad you got sorted. You are lucky your account sorted it because I know that once they say they are right, they don't change their mind. But we are meant to trust them and the banks, oh by the way Fred Goodwin says hi........ from his yacht in the Caribbean.

Not overly fussed myself. I've been physically cashless for years, never use it and the only time I do is when I'm forced to.

Places that say they're cash only are a bigger problem for me than those who only take card. There's nothing worse than going to the chippy because I have to draw out £10-£15 to pay and then I get back a load of change that I'll never use.

There's a difference though between a cashless society that takes digital payments in cash versus having to use something controlled far more centrally like digital coins.

Eventually cash will cease to be relevant because AI/robots will do everything and money will not have any tradeable value.

It clearly does bother you and to be honest you come across quite bitter and jealous of the tradies and their big cars etc
Worrying about the government following me because I don't use cash, I repeat doesn't bother me. If they are They'll soon get bored, and I do everything by the book.

And yeah tradies avoiding tax pisses me of, I'm not apologizing for that. Especially when they flaunt their wealth.

And no, I'm not jealous of anybody so fuck off with that shit.
