If (and it's a big if) the media reports are correct that Dortmund are selling Lewandowski for 25m, why are we still pursuing Cavani?

We could get that fee down to 5-10m with Dzeko in exchange, that's where he wants to go anyway.

Compare that to paying a 63m buyout. That would be madness. Unless someone can convince me Cavani is worth 38m more than Lewandowski. Is he?

There won't be anyone who steps up and answers you sensibly mate.

You're spot on.

I note a few posters are suggesting Lewandowski 'isn't world class'. Guffaw.

If the question is, is Lewandowski worth 38 mill less than Cavani as a player then obviously the answer is no. But if the question is do you believe the difference between the 2 is the difference between a champions league q/f and final (and I'm not saying it is) if you believe that then over 2or 3 years it would justify an extra 38 million.

The question is how much difference in goals plus assists. Cavani is a much better player imo but I doubt the stats will be that much different if both come over here. And I doubt their stats will be that much different to Dzeko's if he plays the same number of games.

It's not as cut & dried as some people suggest. All are decent goalscorers, as is Aguero & Tevez was a couple of seasons ago.

None of them are Ronaldo or Messi.

Re: Cavani Speculation/News (page 301 onwards)

One thing the journos all seem to agree on about Pellegrini is that he has a reputation for getting the best out of his players.

If this is the case I think we would be better off saving the money and seeing what Pellegrini can do with Dzeko. I don't think Mancini ever knew quite how to use him, because the way we attacked wasn't compatible with his style. Given the right service, I think he could be the 25-30 goal striker we thought we would get when we signed him.

Some people are talking about Cavani like he's guaranteed to win us the league, but I don't recall any strikers coming from Serie A and banging goals in the Premier League. And with that price-tag hanging around him, it may be too much pressure.

Those who would prefer us to go after Lewandowski because he is the hottest striker in the Bundesliga need to remember that's the same reason we bought Dzeko in the first place!

Good post mate.
I think we all know our current strikers are good enough, but we do not know for sure which ones of them will be here once next season begins. And if we need to replace, we need to do so with someone better, not equal or worse.

Agree that is an excellent post especially the point on Dzeko

Re: Cavani Speculation/News (page 301 onwards)

Would it be more of a piss take if we bought Cavani for x amount of money and he didnt come through or if Chelsea bought him and he was a 30 goal a season man?

Re: Cavani Speculation/News (page 301 onwards)

More than happy with the current strikers we have. Would prefer us to spend the money on Vidal

And where would he play?

In place of Yaya?....

Or do we place a newly acquired £30m player on the bench?
