More than happy with the current strikers we have. Would prefer us to spend the money on Vidal
And where would he play?

In place of Yaya?....

Or do we place a newly acquired £30m player on the bench?

Yaya further forward.
In place of Aguero? or Silva? or Nasri? or Tevez? or Navas? or possibly Isco?

Even arguably Milner?

I'd love to see your idea of a team and formation...

Re: Cavani Speculation/News (page 301 onwards)

Suggested last week that Lewandowski would be a more prudent bet than Cavani, in relation to cost, age and what we could do with that money elsewhere.

Just think about it, we are already committed to interest in both Cavani and Isco.

Lewandowski would command over £30m if he were not in the final 12 months of his contract.

He is available for around £20m, the same valuation we have on Dzeko.

For whatever reason, Dzeko fancies a fresh start, unless Pellegrini is eventually forced to get him to reconsider his position.

A direct swap would be neutral towards our ongoing spending plans. Lewandowski would earn similar wages to Dzeko wherever he goes, Cavani's would come in at least £100k a week more.

I would argue Lewandowski can settle quicker in England than Cavani and already speaks the language.

And the argument for me, at least, we would still have best part of £40m to buy two more world class players, perhaps another striker more in the mould of a Martinez or Benzema?

Lewandowski comes with a decent chance of further sell-on value, Cavani has none, except at a massive loss.

There does seem to be a theme from some blues they would rather get that big name for the purpose of bragging rights, what others may think of us, than what it does for the team?

Cavani is a brilliant player, no doubt, but with the money we have at our disposal, our team would be just as formidable with Lewandowski and another £25m striker.

Added to a Thiago or another worker bee.

If (and it's a big if) the media reports are correct that Dortmund are selling Lewandowski for 25m, why are we still pursuing Cavani?

We could get that fee down to 5-10m with Dzeko in exchange, that's where he wants to go anyway.

Compare that to paying a 63m buyout. That would be madness. Unless someone can convince me Cavani is worth 38m more than Lewandowski. Is he?

There won't be anyone who steps up and answers you sensibly mate.

You're spot on.

I note a few posters are suggesting Lewandowski 'isn't world class'. Guffaw.

You only have to see the technique for the disallowed goal in the CL final to see he's World Class.

I think tevez, Nasri Barry, Sinclair and Garcia will all be gone come the start of the season if Isco and Thiago come.

I understand what you are saying about benching players but with the number of games, injuries, loss of form etc. I believe all these players would get plenty of games. Seems to work for Bayern Madrid etc why not for us.

He's only 26. Personally i'd trigger his release clause and get Tevez off the wage bill. I don't think we can always worry about sell on values. We need one or two in their prime and this guys a fucking beast. Cavani = title and chance in Champions League for me.

I know you are offering reasoned thought but out of interest, what would you do?

I agree with this and was saying as much last night. However are you privy to any info that we are even enquiring about Lewandowski? If I was City I would get in and get the deal done before the rags are able to shift Rooney. The Napoli chairman has overplayed his hand and we should be making a stand against being strung along again like we have in previous seasons. If Dzeko is willing to go the other way then this is the perfect deal in my eyes.

So adding in Thiago to your hypothetical situation.

Not forgetting the fact Isco wants to be assured of playing time for whoever he joins.

Thiago is open to leaving Barca to seek more regular playing time.

We just shelled out £30m on a midfielder

Milner will want regular time leading up to the world cup

Silva being our best creative player, and overall, one of our best players

Yaya being arguably the most important player.

Having just signed another midfielder in Navas.

You wish for us to spend £40m+ on a midfielder meaning we'd have to chop and change the team like Ranieri is in charge.....

Plus there's the small factor of there being zero chance Juve would sell of course.

We need to be more clinical in front of goal so I'd like to think a top class striker is a priority over yet another midfielder.

Re: Cavani Speculation/News (page 301 onwards)

no way we should pay €64 for him, hes class but not in the ronaldo and messi category, plus we have aguero and dzeko and tevez, you'd swear we had no striker at all on the books

give me isco and lewandowski over cavani any day

I would seriously go get Cavani AND Lewandowski.

If we want to win both the Premier League and have a good go at the Champs League.

Keep seeing Dzeko's name mentioned in the swap with Cavani but the lad is not interested in a move to Napoli and his people keep insisting on Germany.

Swap Dzeko for Lewandowski, it costs us nothing.

Sell Tevez for £10m but more importantly, his £10m a year wages off the books.

Added to the £20m we got for Mario, Cavani costs us £23m in real terms.

There are plenty of games to go around. Send Guidetti out on loan.

Use the money saved to bring in a decent left-back option and centre-back.

the issue would be that Dzeko may want to move on and we are getting interest in Tevez and if we get a reasonable bid I think we would sell to get the wages off the books avoid the loyalty bonus and he's in the last year of his contract (will he sign a new one?)
