Cavani Speculation/News 3 (or 4)

Suggested last week that Lewandowski would be a more prudent bet than Cavani, in relation to cost, age and what we could do with that money elsewhere.

Just think about it, we are already committed to interest in both Cavani and Isco.

Lewandowski would command over £30m if he were not in the final 12 months of his contract.

He is available for around £20m, the same valuation we have on Dzeko.

For whatever reason, Dzeko fancies a fresh start, unless Pellegrini is eventually forced to get him to reconsider his position.

A direct swap would be neutral towards our ongoing spending plans. Lewandowski would earn similar wages to Dzeko wherever he goes, Cavani's would come in at least £100k a week more.

I would argue Lewandowski can settle quicker in England than Cavani and already speaks the language.

And the argument for me, at least, we would still have best part of £40m to buy two more world class players, perhaps another striker more in the mould of a Martinez or Benzema?

Lewandowski comes with a decent chance of further sell-on value, Cavani has none, except at a massive loss.

There does seem to be a theme from some blues they would rather get that big name for the purpose of bragging rights, what others may think of us, than what it does for the team?

Cavani is a brilliant player, no doubt, but with the money we have at our disposal, our team would be just as formidable with Lewandowski and another £25m striker.

Added to a Thiago or another worker bee.

Cavani has long been my number one pick for this summer but - if you accept the need to play along with FFP - there is good financial sense to your suggestion.

Also, if we could get a deal done quickly for Lewandowski rather than getting embroiled in another - possibly fruitless - transfer saga in respect of Cavani, that may help us decide / get done on other business and leave us better prepared for next season.

He's only 26. Personally i'd trigger his release clause and get Tevez off the wage bill. I don't think we can always worry about sell on values. We need one or two in their prime and this guys a fucking beast. Cavani = title and chance in Champions League for me.

I know you are offering reasoned thought but out of interest, what would you do?

I would seriously go get Cavani AND Lewandowski.

If we want to win both the Premier League and have a good go at the Champs League.

Keep seeing Dzeko's name mentioned in the swap with Cavani but the lad is not interested in a move to Napoli and his people keep insisting on Germany.

Swap Dzeko for Lewandowski, it costs us nothing.

Sell Tevez for £10m but more importantly, his £10m a year wages off the books.

Added to the £20m we got for Mario, Cavani costs us £23m in real terms.

There are plenty of games to go around. Send Guidetti out on loan.

Use the money saved to bring in a decent left-back option and centre-back.
Is this your opinion,or have you heard whispers regarding lewandowski to us,as for him and cavani would be nice but its never gonna happen is it?

I agree with this and was saying as much last night. However are you privy to any info that we are even enquiring about Lewandowski? If I was City I would get in and get the deal done before the rags are able to shift Rooney. The Napoli chairman has overplayed his hand and we should be making a stand against being strung along again like we have in previous seasons. If Dzeko is willing to go the other way then this is the perfect deal in my eyes.

If Mancini was still in charge, Lewandowski would certainly be a contender.

Begiristain has spent plenty of time watching games at Dortmund since the turn of the year and sure he knows what he has to offer.

Sometimes deals just present themselves and I agree about being decisive when it comes to beating United to the punch and them trying to sell Rooney on.

I'm stunned Chelsea have not yet been linked with this lad. Jose is still applying the cream after what Lewandwski did to his team this season.

City signing Lewandowski could actually help our negotiating on Cavani, as would not be so desperate to meet their demands.

Chelsea really do fancy Rooney so Cavani's options could eventually be limited to us, Madrid or staying put.

-- Tue Jun 11, 2013 11:36 am --

Was simply asked what I would do?

Having already sold Mario, and possibly now Dzeko and Tevez, don't see what is so unrealistic about bringing in two top quality replacements.

Im getting a bit fed up with the Cavani pursuit. We as a club have been chasing him for the last few seasons and have made our interest clear. This should surely count for something. What we are missing is a clinical striker, and Lewandowski certainly fits that bill. He is also great at interlinking as seen in his interaction with Reus etc. I think he would suit our system and suit the other players we are trying to bring in and have already brought in. I really hope we go for him, as Dzeko's desire to platy in Germany could speed the deal up no end. Cavani on the other hand could drag on all fcuking summer, and I really couldn't be arsed with that.

Re: Cavani Speculation/News (page 301 onwards)

I am not sure Cavani really wants to move from Napoli. His contract ends in 2016 and will probably renegotiate his contract after the Confederations Cup. ADL is encouraging a bidding war and he is in a winning situation.

I think Lewandowski wants to go to one place and one place only. Furthermore, why would he go to a club who didn't make it out of the group stages instead of biding his time at a CL semi-finalist before moving on a free transfer to his dream club next summer?

Cavani will move if someone pays up: needs to win things.

Re: Cavani Speculation/News (page 301 onwards)

I have a feeling that Cavani might unfortunately go to Chelsea. They would worry me as a title threat next year if they get him.

I would be happy with Lewandowski instead though.

It's not the bragging rights that come from signing a player that interest me, it's the bragging rights that come with winning trophies, and if Cavani scores the goals that bring us Premier League and Champs League glory, then he's cheap at twice the price (sell on or no sell on). To say nothing of the obvious downside that comes with Mourinho getting his hands on him. No brainer for me.
