Quick, comfortable on the ball and fond of passing the ball out of defence, Benfica's Ezequiel Garay Since coach Jorge Jesus first arrived at the Estádio da Luz, Benfica have been transformed – from constant underachievers (with the exception of Giovanni Trapattoni’s title in 2005) into serious contenders in Portugal and in Europe. His first year at the club immediately yielded a much sought-after Portuguese league title, with Benfica producing dominating, flashy displays, often with big victories, particularly in front of their own crowd.

However, results on the pitch were not the only thing Benfica got better at. After more than a decade of bringing in past it talent (Michael Thomas and Dean Saunders immediately spring to mind) or even players that clearly were not good enough, the club’s, has improved in the transfer market – both in and out. Under the new incumbent, Benfica have sold over the past few years names like Ramires, Fábio Coentrão, Di María, David Luiz and Witsel, making millions of pounds in return.

Ezequiel Garay was brought in similar fashion. While negotiating the selling of Fábio Coentrão to Real Madrid for a whopping £25 million, Benfica’s president inquired about the Argentinean centre-back and ended up buying his rights for £4.5 million. He would then settle in rather quickly and soon became a stalwart on Benfica’s defence

Collocini looked good, with Zab having a chat and Pelli having worked with him before if the barcodes are in turmoil why not make a derisory and insulting bid, seems to be the in thing these days.

I thought exactly that watching the behind the scenes footage on our website.

Pellegrini looked like Collocini was his long lost son. Zabba was all over him and Agueto waited ages to see him after the game.

He's of decent & experienced centre half, knows the league and is decent pace and technical ability.

I think £5 million would solve many issues.

For me it would be a no brainer, Newcastle are a shambles, they know at any point they may lose Collocini for nothing to San Lorenzo.

A popular player, knows the league, would love CL football would cost relative peanuts both in fee & wages.

Skrtel being linked with City and Napoli now.

Manchester City are understood to be considering a move for Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel amid interest from Napoli for the Slovakia international.

The 28-year-old endured a testing campaign with the Reds last term but former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, now in charge of Italian club Napoli, is still keen on linking up with the defender.

The Spanish coach is reportedly ready to raid his old club again after recently signing goalkeeper Pepe Reina from Liverpool and talks over a £12 million switch for Skrtel are now said to be at an ‘advanced stage’.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini wants to add to his defensive options this summer especially after hearing that Matija Nastasic is likely to miss the first month of the Premier League season through injury and sources in Manchester have told SportsDirect News the Chilean boss is thinking of making a move for Skrtel as cover.

The Slovakian centre-half's future at Anfield is uncertain after Kolo Toure’s arrival and he has previously admitted he would give an offer of a transfer serious consideration.

Whilst a move to a bigger club may tempt Skrtel to leave Liverpool, it is unlikely that Pellegrini would see him as his one of his first-choice defenders at the Etihad Stadium, which may make the centre-back choose Napoli should he quit Anfield.

Garay oozes quality tbh, brilliant on the ball, 2 great feet, covers gorund nicely and reads the game well. Mainly leftsided is the only slight downside, plus he's probably not as dominant in the air as someone like Lescott (but that's probably a sacrifice you take for being better on the floor) Availble for £20m, I'd be tempted

Great shout! Collocini would be an awesome addition to the back line.
Though he would cost a lot more than £5mil. Around 15mil and I'd call that a great piece of business.

I'd second Colocinni, but one of my Newcastle supporting mates that he apparently will leave at the end of this season. He wanted to go back to Argentina last season but Pardew persuaded him to stay. If not there's still the issue he's getting on a bit and I bet Toon would ask for a crazy amount for someone that age.

Hopefully I real shot at a couple of extremely desirable trophies, being managed by someone he obviously respects and playing together with a few national team-mates might change his mind.

That plus a decent pay check of course.

I don't rate Collocini that highly, he had a good year, but has been poor since and isn't getting any younger, not to mention bad memories of people who get homesick for Argentina...

I am trying to remember but I think there were some rumors he had an affair and his wife and kids left to go back to Argentina and basically told him if he wanted to save their family then he would have to as well.

Not that we're actually in for Colocinni, but I could think of worse things than getting an experienced, quality CB who plans to depart in a season. With Nastasic showing such promise and Rekik as well, i really don't want anyone who is going to be here next season anyway.
