What's the current situation as far as Karim Rekik is concerned?

Is he still on loan at PSV, and, if so, do you think he could brought back and still have a viable future at City?

His loan deal ended and he's back with City for pre-season.......He told City he wouldn't come back unless he was able to get some games with the starting 11 this year, so anyone's guess how this will turn out for him....

He's a contracted player. He does what the club tells him. A bit Billy big time for me if he really said that. Hopefully something was 'lost in translation'.
As long as he doesn't expect a fucking cake I'm not arsed.

He is back at City at the moment.

There are rumours that Bielsa wants him at Marseille, either way he needs a few more loans before he is considered good
enough for our squad in my opinion.
Guess you're right Sam, hope the club aren't too eager to make any sale perminant though

The lad's still only 19 after all

'I've got a season's experience of Dutch football under my belt and it would be pointless then to sit down on the bench or the stand at City for another year.

'I need to be able to play a minimum 20 games for City next season in order to develop as a player and it is an important time for me.

'I will make this clear when I meet them to discuss my programme.

'I face strong competition with Vincent Kompany, Martin Demichelis, Joleon Lescott and Matija Nastasic for places. If they continue, I should be loaned another year. But Lescott wants to leave. Suppose they let Lescott go and they do not replace him, that’s interesting to me.
-----------------------------------------------------

Slightly different to the inference the transfer junkie above made......

I have no problem with Rekik's statement and approach,he wants to develop and makes great sense in what he is saying,i'm sure the club are on a similar wavelength.

Rekik's statement was bang on, that's exactly the attitude he should have. He wants to develop and has clearly thought through what he needs to be doing to maximise his development. He's good enough to be playing against adults and needs to do so in order to get to the level needed to play for us.

Hi mate...yes those comments do seem a lot better than the original reports from earlier in the season, the report I read from daily mail in April read......

"Karim Rekik demands Manchester City to play him 20 times next season or he will not return......"

yes, I know....its the daily mail ;)

Rekik better impress for Pellegrini this preseason if he wants to get near the first team.

I like his swagger but he should have the goods to back it up.

Very similar newspaper "quotes" to the ones, supposedly, made by John Guidetti when he was on loan at Feyenoord a couple of years back.

Must have the same agent....

Anyone know how tall young Bossaerts is now? Was very very highly rated when we snaffled him as a junior...

Height is irrelevant. Fabio Cannavaro was never the tallest but was one of the best modern defenders there is.

How many top class CB's under 6ft can you name that are playing in the modern game ?

Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva
Carles Puyol, Ivan Cordoba, Javier Mascherano, Ricardo Carvalho etc.

Besides, Rekik is 6'1.

Regarding Rekik
-------------------------

After impressing in Eindhoven last year, Karim Rekik was rumoured to be offered a return to the Philips Stadion ahead of the new Eredivisie campaign. However, in an interview with CityTV today, the defender stated he is out to earn a place in Manuel Pellegrini’s starting line-up at Manchester City.

The big 6ft 1inch central defender had an outstanding year last season under Philip Cocu playing 30 times in all competitions for PSV. He impressed Oranje coach Louis van Gaal too, who named him in his pre-World Cup 30-man provisional squad.

PSV technical director has discussed with the press the possibility of the young defender returning for another stint on loan but in Rekik’s latest interview, the youngster has stated he wants to “fight for a place” at City.

Rekik returned to Manchester this summer and is now currently with the first team in Scotland as part of City’s pre-season program. The 19-year-old is hoping that regular football last year in the Eredivisie has prepared him for his City future.

Rekik told City TV: “I just played every game which I think is important for a young player and it was a great experience for me. I have to spoke to him [Pellegrini] and he said that I had a good year last year and that I need to work now and fight for my place.”

“I will see if I’m ready [City’s first team] and that’s the choice of the manager,” he continued

why aren't we chasing that Boeteng from Germany? he was the best player on the pitch last night in the World Cup Final plus he's young and brave and can play either full back position?

Seems very strange that we have not once been linked with Hummels

I know many might not agree with my take on Hummels and I know he was playing against Messi but Hummels seems to lack pace and quickness last night and in a lot of games this world cup....Amazing defender when play is in front of him but attack him with movement and speed...he struggled a lot......and I think that's where the answer is to why we didn't go for him...The people on BBC1 were talking about it during the world cup last night.....Germany struggled with the highline and it didn't suit Hummels style of play....personally I'm glad we didn't go for Hummels as he might have struggled in City's system...It's very difficult to play the highline and not many defenders have the speed/quickness/movement skillset to be excellent at it......which is why I think Mangala is worth every penny of that 32mil....If City feel he is the man for the job......you just have to get it done...and they did!;)

It seems strange that some aren't prepared to give this lad a chance next season.

Such as the way it works that if he wasn't on our books, may would be saying that we should sign him. A 19 year old PSV regular that was called up to the provisional 30 of Holland would certainly excite quite a few.

He may be a lot of things but I'm confident that 'brave' is the last quality those who watched him regularly during his time here would see him as. I've never seen a player bottle the physical side of the game as much as young Jerome. To call him a shithouse would have been unfair to shithouses.
