Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

nah man you are clutching.

and rudigers was a standard body check - never usually a red

I'm not, it was a penalty.

If you read my inital post, not taking anything away from Chelsea, not blaming the ref for others in the game (i never mentione a red card btw). They defended well and took the chance. We didnt take ours early on, couldnt make anythi g happen after.

The Penalty was a penalty though. I'm sure. it hit his hand, which was away from the body. That is a penalty. As I said, may have made no differnce in the end, but VAR shat the bed.

Winning the CL would have been a bonus on top of a great season. Some people on here seem to think not winning it cancels out everything else.

Winning the Premier League v winning the CL - Premier League every day and twice on Sundays.

Who is still our greatest ever manager lol

I feel your pain though but still he’s the best there is

The Centurion season, the season we won every domestic trophy we could win - both feats that have never been replicated in 130+ years of top flight football.

Then this season, a double from a position where WUMs on here claimed we'd be "lucky to get top 4" half a year ago, and our first ever CL Final.

If you're Pep Out then you're a fucking idiot. End of.

Surprised no one is having a pop at Ederson for the goal. No need to come charging out so far, come out by all means and narrow the angle but make him shoot and beat you, make it harder for Havertz instead of handing an open goal on a plate. Havertz is not a great finisher but Ederson made that too easy for him. Dog shit against Lyon last year and not great tonight in another huge match.
Here's the thing, you heard someone shout to play the ball 1-2 seconds before he played it and still zinchenko didn't get goal side. It's not his fault, it's a collective mistake - and Ed maybe should have stayed - but generally that's a defensive line mistake and it's ok and they exploited it. But going forward was where they completely outplayed us to be fair, their back 5 was better. It's ok. It's football. It's fucking annoying.

Anyone knocking Pep, how many Champion's Leagues have you won?
You don’t need a Champions League winners medal to spot a dreadful team selection. Honestly, you don’t. Same way we don’t need to have been an MP to criticise the government. Anyone knocking Pep is spot on. His team selection was appalling and set the tone for the entire night. A tone of confusion.

We had another poor first half like in Paris, and this time it was fatal. Also, we didn't learn enough from the previous two losses vs Chelsea.

We weren't patient enough in the build-up and made mistakes. Chelsea used some of them for dangerous counters and defended brilliantly, tbf.

Think that the heroic efforts from December to March when we won 21 games in a row cost us in the final months. Cancelo, Rodri, Bernardo, Gundogan were crucial in that period, but lost a bit of form after that. Even Dias wasn't at his best recently and was arguably responsible for their goal. Kevin wasn't in the game and made mistakes. Still, his injury was pretty bad, for he could create a goal out of nothing.

Did Pep make a mistake with the first XI? Maybe he did, but nobody could be sure that the final outcome would have been different. Think Sterling was better than say Kevin and Mahrez, at least in the first half. A lot of people on here underestimated Chelsea before the game. They played pretty well, our current style suits their strengths, similarly with us and Liverpool 2-3 years ago.

We have lost a bit of form since early March, which is normal. Next season we will reinforce our attack and go again.

Thanks for this season to Pep and the players. Hopefully we will do even better next season.
Excellent summary. I'm beginning to think we're the only two people on here who actually watched the match. Everyone was slating Rodri not too long ago, and both he and Fernandinho started against Chelsea in the FA Cup. Didn't seem to work that day did it?

If Ederson had brought down Havortz and got sent off but kept the score at 0-0, who knows what the outcome might have been. It's just fine margins.
