Typical. We're not lauding Chelsea from the roofs, a bit of critique and all of a sudden we're rags.

Think it's more to do with some posters on here labeling Chelsea, it's fans and it's players as racists. Which is a load of utter rubbish.

No, it's nothing of the sort.
Some Chelsea wideboy came on here claiming that his team regularly brought 10,000 fans to Maine Road.
They didn't.
He then took objection to me pointing out that their average home crowd amazingly leapt from 13,000 to 30,000 overnight, which just happened to coincide with Roman's roubles arriving.
Which is true.
In the 70's and 80's, Chelsea were notorious for their far-right support.
John Terry was fined £220,000 and banned for four games for racial abuse.
So yes, they have racists in their fanbase and their team.
The same imbecile then compared us with rag fans - and you wonder why folk got pissed off with him?
Just to point out they have had 30k plus attendances since 98, they have only been fully sold out attendance averages since 2004 which of course does coincide with the takeover

They didn't. - May 1984 and March 1989. If not 10k then pretty damn close to it.

He then took objection to me pointing out that their average home crowd amazingly leapt from 13,000 to 30,000 overnight, which just happened to coincide with Roman's roubles arriving - The 13k average was about 20 years before Roman pitched up so hardly overnight. A far better example of a huge overnight jump in support would be comparing Newcastle's last home game before Keegan became manager to their first home game when he took over

In the 70's and 80's, Chelsea were notorious for their far-right support. Which is true. I agree.

John Terry was fined £220,000 and banned for four games for racial abuse. True

So yes, they have racists in their fanbase and their team. True but they're not alone

The same imbecile then compared us with rag fans - and you wonder why folk got pissed off with him? I'm not sure I blame him the way this thread has gone these past 10 pages or so

Sold out since 98, reason the crowds were only 32-34k prior to that was because the West Stand was being built.

Because we don't have one. I fail every year at maintaining this because I'm just not as diligent as the Spuds and for some reason people like to make new threads every time something happens in Chelsea. But worth a shot.

Mourinho has returned and we looked pretty good in our first preseason win against Singha All-Stars in Asia. Lukaku slotting home a soft penalty, but we played with high intensity and dominated from start to finish with a mix/mash side and 11 changes at half time. De Bruyne, Wallace (new young RB), Essien and Lukaku particularly impressed.

Eden Hazard cannot be tackled (at least by the All-Stars) and seems to be playing a much more direct style than before. That is to say he seems to be running at defences much more and taking shots, rather than trying to play like Mata and play people in. I'm excited if this is how Jose wants to utilise him because Hazard running with the ball is a sight to behold and I feel he didn't do it enough last season.

As mentioned, the stand out performance was Kevin De Bruyne. I can't quite believe we picked this lad up for so little and with no competition. He's going to be something special. He has qualities which remind me of both Lampard and Mata, as he seems to have Mata's ability to pick insane passes with pin-point accuracy combined with strong shooting technique and work rate. His highlights here for anyone interested:

New signing van Ginkle looked assured on the ball and has great passing technique. He doesn't seem the sort to stand out, but he distributes much more efficiently than Mikel, has a good tackle on him and reads the game very well. Essien dominated the midfield single-handedly while he was on, just like his old days and I hope that was a sign of a revival. Perhaps he wont be making those driving runs as often any more, but he could add some much needed steel back into our midfield. I feel much, much more confident about our central midfield problems after this early showing. It already looks like a complete transformation with a lot more depth than we had before (as we had to use Luiz as a makeshift quite often).

Our second pre-season game is on Sunday against a Malaysia 11.
you got your unified Chelsea thread, but no de bruyne, no Mata, no essien.

Cheers got to say you and others like you are the reason if we don't win the league I'd rather city won it ahead of arsenal, liverpool or united any day.

It's true, Chelsea's glory supporters turned up when they started signing foreign mercenaries after a last payday from Serie A, not when Abramovich took over

This thread is good today, you have to admit.

Possibly the only time you will see Chelsea bringing excitement to folk this season.
Oh, and that's another thing - they are shite to watch.
yeh well that's mourinho for you and some on here actually want him as city manager.
