The argument I made about the long contracts was that FFP dodge sounds very sketchy and mischievous whereas I looked at the long contract as a fair way to remain compliant with the rules set by the governing bodies. It isn’t gaining an unfair advantage and it was only stopped because UEFA thinks it’s a harmful practice to the clubs doing it. So you can call it an FFP dodge but unless you don’t mean that in the negative way I took it to mean, then I still maintain you were wrong about that :)

About the Saudi thing. It’s really just one player we’re talking about here. Koulibaly. Mendy is on super low wages, like around £55ka week. Ziyech is on around £100k a week. These were not difficult players to shift to Europe at all. They are the ones who were presented with a chance to move to Saudi and they accepted. Up until Saudi approached them, Mendy was being heavily linked with a move back to France and Ziyech was being linked moves to Turkey and Italy and he was reportedly happy to take a paycut to leave.

Now that Arsenal and you lot are on the verge of giving us £100m for Havertz and Kovacic, I very much doubt we were in any serious FFP trouble for this year, wether we sold Koulibaly or not.
whilst you mention mendy, what exactly has happened to him, kepa couldnt get a game , then all of a sudden mendy cant get a game and is/has been sold, i may of missed something during the season regarding this

He became very error prone. He had that one and half season of being world class and then errors started creeping in. Tuchel stuck with him to be fair but it was unlucky timing that he got injured just as Tuchel was sacked, and Potter was forced to play Kepa. He was out injured for like a month and in that time Kepa actually played pretty well, so he kept his place. What also hasn’t helped is Mendy and Chelsea have been unable to agree on contract terms. He has rejected every offer for the last 12 months, so I guess both parties came to agreement that it was best for him to find a different club.

mendy looked very capable, people sometimes don't realise how important a keeper is for success , i don't think kepa is the answer going forward for you either , dont think hes a bad keeper, but if you start off as kepa did it takes something very special to get back, we saw it with bravo, never recovered from his poor start with us , cech was very big boots to fill

Yep sold him at a loss, Ziyech will be sold for around £8m after we signed him for £30m three years ago.

I understand people are a bit frustrated or annoyed when they all insisted Chelsea would have trouble trimming the squad and now seeing us trim the squad by nearly 10 players with ease by the end of June.
What about the other dead weight dross like Sterling and Mount?
Or do you consider them part of the squad.

If Chelsea are money laundering then they're not very good at it. Koulibaly has cost them £13million for what has been effectively a seasons loan and they've paid his wages/signing on fee/agents fees and everything else into the bargain.

If any of ours go to Saudi are we dodging FFP?

I've never understood this aggression to opposition fans on a football forum unless they've had a go first. I always thought that was more a rawk thing where no dissenting voice is allowed.

Edit: what are these PIF links BTW?

Look who are linked to Saudi they ain’t 31 year old has beens where no other club wants them in Europe! Saying that good look to Chelsea getting rid of there dead wood so they can buy even more players so in effect there squad hasn’t reduced!

Ziyech is 30 but Koulibaly & Kante are both 32 and presumably on good money at Chelsea. I think you're stretching there bud.

Yeah Kepa definitely isn’t the man we need. The trouble with him is, unlike Mendy for example, he has proven impossible to shift. He has two years left on the 7 year deal we have so I suspect he’s going to see his contract out and move back to La Liga. We do need a new keeper though. I had hoped we would go for Onana but he looks United bound.

I don’t consider either of them deadwood. I need to see how Sterling performs under Poch. He ended up being our top scorer last season but I was very disappointed with his effort the second half of the season. Hopefully with a new season and a new manager, he gets some of his mojo back. With Mount, he looked very close to a move to United a few days ago. I hope to god he stays.

Yep that’s my point on good money hard to get out the club who wouldn’t want to go to Saudi on 50m a year?

The squad will reduce. These are the players who have either already left or close to leaving.

Havertz
Kovacic
Kante
Koulibaly
Mendy
Ziyech
Mount
Azpi
Auba
Loftus-Cheek

We’ve already sent Felix and Zakaria back to their clubs.
That’s 12 players and there are further rumours about Pulisic and Chalobah (who I really hope stays), if they leave also that’s 14 players.

And we don’t know what’s happening with Lukaku, but it seems like Chelsea do not want him back here under any circumstances.

So far we’ve only brought in Nkunku plus Gusto and Colwill as returning loanees plus very close to announcing Jackson from Villarreal. So 4 incoming potentially 12 who have left or close to leaving.

If squad size was 33 last season, minus 12 plus 4 make it 25 players.
