I’m not sure if fessing up and blaming it on the previous owner will lead to a much lighter punishment. These are potentially very serious offences - the kind of which our own club has flat out denied - yet Chelsea are admitting they’re guilty by the looks of things. @projectriver explains it far better than I can:

Are West Ham's third party ownership issues with Tevez relevant here? I believe that the new owners reported the "offence" to the authorities but were still responsible for the actions of the previous owners and the issue was not whether the club was responsible but what sanctions were applicable according to PL rules. In that case relegation or a points deduction were not but a fine was. In Chelsea's case the offences are admitted but not yet made public so we simply don't know. In City's case we can only try to to work back from the "rap sheet" to judge what the charges are, but assertions that the PL can impose what sanctions it likes (in the unlikely event of a guilty verdict!) seem wide of the mark?

This whole situation stinks.

Just like any other industry allow the owners to invest what they want. Football has been going for hundreds of years without FFP. Football if it wants a free competition should scrape FFP.

I say keep it, City moving to comply with financial fair play after having their fingers burnt in 2014 has helped the club grow ten fold. If it was removed Newcastle could go on a spending spree unparalleled in professional football, it’s starting to have an impact on clubs who have sought to bring City down as well. Keep it in place as it’s a mechanism that ensures we are at the top table of football for the foreseeable future.

I would like to know why the new owners waited until after the take over to report this?

Prior to the take over, they knew there was incomplete financial reporting concerning historical transactions between 2012 and 2019 during the Abramovich ownership.

UEFA's case against us was based on 6 hacked emails - 1 of which was 2 spliced together - and they went balls deep on us. UEFA: thank you Chelsea for doing our job, here, we'll settle for €10m. Premier League? Nothing to see here.

The whole think stinks of one huge pile of Rhino dung.

Yep an owner had to do those dodgy deals because of ffp when the owner had the money to spend what they want!

Just let clubs spend what they want and have what uefa have brought in you can't have a wage bill higher than 70%

Liam Gallagher had it spot on months ago - you investigate one, you investigate all.

Fact is that City - and now Chelsea - are only in the firing line due to the criminality of that wanker Rui Pinto in the case of the former, and because it was brought to the attention of the football authorities by the club itself in the case of the latter.

Let's actually see the likes of the PL and UEFA actually do some investigating off their own back for a fucking change and conduct a deep dive into the finances of every club.
Seems unlikely that forensic audits are currently undertaken, doesn't it?

PL are saying these no charges yet Chelsea have admitted breaking the rules !
Chelsea's current ownership have reported irregularities found during the purchase process. That's not the same as admitting to breaking the rules.

I get confused lol but these rules that were broken were UEFA FFP. But you might not have broken PL FFP. like City didnt break any UEFA FFP but might have broken PL FFP.

So we are different you broke UEFA we didnt ! But both clubs are now being investigated by the PL lol.

I am totally with you on the confusion front!

The reality is that no one knows at this moment the nature of Chelsea's potential breaches, or indeed how a seemingly erratic body such as the PL will deal with things.

The obvious thing would be to apologise but I’m not spending £4b having looked at the books.

Maybe there’s another club where this has occurred?
