City’s New Kits - 2021/22

1 Why? Are you that insular that the term Man City hasn't ever registered with you over the last 50+ years or however old you are?
2 So you asked a WhatsApp group, you asked the same question here and are getting a whole different viewpoint and response, even to the extent that some people in the 30-mile ring you stated have told you that you were wrong.
3 But they do know how to turn a club from perennial losers into a worldwide power, in fact creating a whole new identity of a winning football club, bugger and I so enjoyed the division two experience.
Of course everyone has heard the phrase “Man City” before!

But never, in a million years, would City fans use that in day to day conversation.

“Do you fancy coming to the Man City game, mate?” Fuck off.

To us dinosaurs and locals it's City or Manchester City. The first time I ever heard Man City was when I went to uni over 40 years ago. Seemed so odd then and still does.

I suppose if you live somewhere like Bury or Rochdale or Ashton you might need to qualify by using the Man prefix but when you grow up in a world where 99% of people support City or the rags then it's unnecessary.
Not really
Lots of clubs are referred to by a single place name, such as Leicester, or a shortened version of their actual name, such as Spurs

This, 100%.

It was always City when I was growing up. My grandfather lived most of his life in Shropshire always said City. Birmingham City were know to him as Birmingham while Stoke City were Stoke.

I lived in Leicester for four years and rarely heard the local team referred to as anything other than Leicester. Before that I was five years in Coventry and it was much the same.

In Blackburn they refer to the local team as Rovers not Blackburn. In Bolton it's Wanderers not Bolton. In West Bromwich their team is Albion. In Wigan and Oldham it's Latics. I'm sure you get my drift.

In Manchester it's City.

I understand that club are aiming at a global audience so are pushing Man City but it doesn't alter the fact that we're City (unless we need an extra syllable in a chant :-)).

I love it when a player uses City instead of Man City in an interview. Irrational I know but there it is.

Didn't keegan attend a fans forum or similar when he first joined and refer to us as man City and was told that it should only be city or manchester city?
Sure I read that at the time but maybe my mind is playing tricks on me.

I’ve noticed a lot of Geordies refer to that lot as “Man United” (I know he’s not technically a Geordie)

But again, the thought of someone locally calling them lot “Man United” is just so fucking absurd, I can’t believe it’s even a debate.
