Just to clarify...

The quote "The threats against the fanzines may be one of the reasons why we've only got one left now..." has absolutely nothing to do with the so-called 'fanzine wars'.

It is a totally separate comment and has no relevance to the current goings-on. Hope that helps lighten the mood...

Suit yourself. There's no pleasing you, is there?

Glad to see I helped lighten the mood...

Oh, and I can think of many things that please me. PM me and I'll give you a list!

out of interest what do you lot do when you see eachother at away games. it's very rare you go to a game and don't pass see the same KOTK sellers everywere, do you lot just blank eachother.

to be honest felix its not the away games i see this lot, more home games.

i walk past dave wallace most home games as he is on the way from mary ds to the south stand and i usually say hello and sometimes stop for a quick chat

phill gatenby i used to see at concerts like echo and the bunnymen and morrissey in the last few years, he has his own crowd he goes to games to, but we had the same publishers for a while so we get along fine

i pm'd noel yesterday. that was our first contact in 10 years ! we lost 4-3 at the dell in a league cup game in 2000. i was selling kk and he said "dave's just using you" and i just said "noel, what are you speaking to me for... if you don't like us, just don't speak to us" and that was literally it until yesterday !

when we see each other we make eye contact for a second or two then carry on without stopping. i think there may always be an element of distrust until things settle down.

tom ritchie i last saw at rangers away. tom was a key member of the lee out campaign and he was always a good laugh. i have heard he is reading this thread with interest, but not yet wanting to contribute !!!

i can speak to mike holden and the main chips and gravy lads when i see them

bill borrows i have met a couple of times for a pint in town and got on ok, where i disagree with him is over franny lee. he got the scoop for the mirror and whilst we were all anti-swales, he blamed swales for the 4 years lee was in charge whereas i said no, the decisions lee made had made things worse. he tried to get on the board of the free the 30,000 but we didn't really trust him. i don't see bill at the football at all but he lives in london (i think)

i suppose when noel next meets phill what's gonna happen there , that's the question

You sure about that mate

Nowt, as far as I'm concerned. Just like last time!

As Phill won't come for a pint with me, Dante and Prestwich Blue, I might have to have a Christmas Come Dine With Me with him, Dave and Dante instead!

Fascinating stuff.

Fanzines were great bitd, but I think Noel called it right when he ended BTH, saying that his was not a publication for a new stadium. Fanzines in part railed against the conditions that supporters were forced to endure at the times; fences, policing, the constant threat of hooliganism etc and were part of the renaissance of the national game in starting to encourage plain enjoying yourself at the game, whether that be through inflatibles or good natured nostalgia.

It was a time when the club needed their supporters because £££s on the gate mattered, whereas these days it matters barely a jot what the crowd is such is the big money coming from elsewhere. This is all reflected in the CoMS match-day experience which is not what it was at Maine Road, and not really to my taste these days. I only take in the odd game and prefer to watch and help out at my local club where I make a difference. A bit needy on my part I accept, but we all take different things from the game we love.

As for the zines themselves, I had articles printed in Blueprint, KOTK and BTH. In the end, I prefered the latter as it reflected my thoughts better, but I bought them all, usually one a game. Ironically, given I wrote for BTH most, the first thing I had published was a letter to Noel telling him I liked his publication the least of the three - he printed it saying 'still, as long as the 50ps keep rolling in'. Which they did.

I had a 'Better than Best' t-shirt though. They were excellent.

I thought Tom may have been M27 TBH? There wasn't this much cloak and dagger stuff going on when I was at the MoD during the Cold War.
