City matchday presenters sacked over podcast (P6)

Oh well we now live in a society were some are offended by anything and everything no matter how trivial that may be ( not saying this is trivial)but really is it offensive to imitate say Chinese,Spanish,Irish,Scottish,Americans,English or African like the two did in the podcast for god sake we see yanks ( opps) Americans taking off English accents and going on about crooked teeth is that offensive to some. The Irish are usually called thick paddies in jokes and so forth does anyone find that offensive,I watched lethal weapon a while back think it’s on again tonight (Gibson and Glover) against the triads uncle benny is found dead and Riggs says looking at him “it’s fried rice you plick “ is that offensive to some it’s a pisstake on his English ffs ...the society is becoming scouse like ashamed of nothing offended by everything or maybe I’m wrong after all,and I’m just a thick Irish twat ...

Unless you are running for president or prime minister

Small people get pissed off with this but if it comes to an election they will ignore such behaviour for whatever reason they have.

Examples include:

1. They support the party that has the racist leader.
2. They could subconsciously agree

Then they reeport small stuff in comparison like this because it gives them a chance to feel like they have 'done something'

I tempted to say calm down, calm down but worried I might be accused of stereotyping scousers.

I could say, it's ok our kid but I might offend other mancs

I could say, aye fuckin ell jimmy, but the Scots might get upset. Dont fancy a Glasgow kiss at the next match. Oops I done it again.
Sorry Mayo but we’ve moved on now in society. The comparisons you make are just a little demeaning to those of us who are non white. You really think “ok our kid” equates to racism against Chinese, Asian people etc?
By the way I am against a lot of political correctness and in fact there may be instances where taking the piss out of other races has a context that is acceptable and the person does not feel offended but you cannot do what they apparently did in that podcast without censure.
When you do things like that it shows what you’re thinking and in this day and age there isn’t any excuse in such a public way
Perhaps for whatever they do next they could do a dirty Arab piss take?

You don’t even know what happened.

I've only just seen this thread and read what was said.

Even by the pitifully dismal standards of club presenters this was complete and utter shite and they deserve the sack for even thinking it could possibly be amusing. You can't imagine how on hearing it on playback they both thought 'let's get it out there'.

I'm probably as non-PC as it gets these days and I found it to be Bernard Manning on a very bad night dreadful.
Manning never had a bad night. Ever.

You make good points.

My first response was to the question about racism made by Bluematt.

The ramble after was just that.

I fear in time though we could head down that road. Nothing will be said without everyone being scared.

I mean generally it's linked to how much abuse and genuine discrimination people are likely to receive in the real world as a result of these things. Yes the Americans use unflattering stereotypes sometimes in comedy about English people, but the reality is that there aren't large numbers of English people in America getting abused because of their nationality and it's generally done in good humour. Whereas if you're of a Chinese background, chances are you've suffered some sort of genuine racist abuse that includes a lot of the tropes used in these "jokes" about your culture. It's like when people try to say that there's no difference between the P-word and calling British people a Brit. And no, in principle there shouldn't be, except that one is regularly used as a racial slur, so to try and then use it as a neutral, descriptive term is more problematic.

Manning admitted he was a racist in his final interview.Always stayed away from his place as I wasn't foolish enough to allow myself to be singled out which by all accounts he would have given my skin colour.
