City to start charging blue badge holders for matchday disabled parking

I’ve only just seen this thread. I’m absolutely staggered that people with a disability feel they should get free parking. I fully agree and wholeheartedly understand the physical issues resulting in closer parking to a venue or stadium, but why should it cost nothing when the non disabled match going fan is paying a fortune?
It has always been free for blue badge holders so it is not those of us who have one that are demanding it . It costs hundreds of pounds a month more if you you are disabled hence why it has been free , it enables people to go and join in with everyone else , this stance by the club is hitting the disabled for a little savings , it is stupid and bad pr

Again, I go back to what City are actually making a season from this disastrous PR stunt.

Let’s say 100 car park spaces. I don’t think it’s that many? Is it 50 car park spaces?

This season. A token gesture by the club. £6.

100x£6 = £600. £600 x 19 PL home games = £11,400.
100x£12 = £1,200. 19 x £1200 = £22,800.

Throw in a few CL games.

Have the club become that desperate in the pursuit of increasing match day revenue that they are really prepared to charge our disabled supporters £22,800 a season to park their cars close to the ground. £22,800!

Sheikh Mansour.

As part of that, we will absolutely spend time listening to you the fans about what you think about the future of the club. We are very aware that without you there would not be a club to buy, and your voice will be heard by the organisation at the highest level.

Does the decision to charge affect you directly in any way?

Partly you are correct, this is really a social & governmental issue that private businesses don’t have to fix, the issue being that disabled people on average earn less than equivalent non-disabled due to various reasons and adding additional costs is harder for many of them to budget for. After all, lots of us have also been hit from last season with additional £10/£12 parking charges on top of the 3/4 mile walk we still have to do.

However I feel clubs have a social responsibility to go the extra mile to promote inclusivity and this latest decision is at odds with CITC and the work they have done down the years. I don’t really care what other clubs do though, we’re Manchester City and we are better than this. It’s just plain greed.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is also down to mis-use of the badges. I don’t what percentage are fraudulently used, but I’m guessing it’s pretty high.

I posted this a bit earlier in the thread

That's true, but according to Scope UK, people living with a disability face extra costs on average of £570 a month as a result of their impairment.

This ‘disability price tag’ costs an average of £6,840 a year; however one in four disabled people pay over £12,000 a year extra due to their condition.

The nature of the extra costs vary significantly across different disabilities, with some of the main costs covering specialist equipment such as wheelchairs, alterations to the home and increased transport costs.

As a result, for every £100 a disabled person earns, their spending power is just £67.

The increased cost of living with a disability, in conjunction with possible reduced working hours, means that disabled people are disproportionately living in poverty. Disabled adults are actually twice as likely as non-disabled adults to live in persistent poverty. Pretty shite state of affairs when you think about it.

Ehrling earns £59k a day before tax. Think about that for a minute. Imagine what £23k is as a percentage of just the first team wages are, and then wonder at the tight-fistedness of a club who would do this.

We've yet to see how much the club will charge for Blue car parking this year...I'll guess it might go to £20 a game. 2025 ? Up to £30.

Be prepared for next year when the OAP discounts are removed from Ticket prices (see Daniel Levy as a prime example of greed).

The year after with the opening of our new entertainment complex, get ready for a minimum pint price of £10 across all bars, both at the Co-Op and inside and outside the ground.

Prepare for above inflation ticket price rises as the club opens up more seats to tourists and wants to force Season Tickets holders and legacy fans out.

Watch as the away ends become 2/3rd tourists, especially the London games.

Enjoy watching the front of the new North Stand being packed with corporates while the club plays lip service to the 1894 group.

And if a super league does revisit these shores, prepare for us to jump into bed with the idea if it will improve the balance sheet.

It's the new world order of football, the vast majority of fans are now here to provide the background noise to allow the upsell of visitors / corporates / hospitality.

You'd do well in the riots thread in Off Topic. You have no information but you have decided most users are fraudulent.
Are you Elon Musk, Farage or the shitbag sunning himself on holiday ?

In which case the club should be targeting the misuse of badges rather than all blue badge holders.
It's also worth remembering that not all disabilities are visible.
