City v Southampton post match thread

Thought this game was going to be alot harder than it ended up,we started well got the pen then dropped off bar the occasional flurry, southampton dominated possession first half but apart from their pen really didn't threaten..two injury time goals first half knocked the saints off their stride, and in the end it was a comfortable three points...just a shame negredo couldn't get a goal to give him a boost ahead of liverpool and have him chomping at the bit..now onto anfield where i would settle for adraw, although a win apart from being huge at this stage would probably be the knock-out punch for liverpool in the title....

You are wrong though mate.

its all about opinions fella , it just that yours is incorrect :)

Ok if we really have to.......

drama queens out in force again , "if we play like we did in the 1st half we will get hammered" we got an early goal , stood off them ,let them play tippy tappy football , then took them to the cleaners .

Context mate. What some posters are saying is if we allow Liverpool such space and time in midfield and advanced areas they will hurt us. This is Liverpool who have scored 40 odd more goals than Southampton and are actually leading goalscorers in the division. There is a huge difference in the quality of their front players compared to a Southampton team in 'end of season wind down' mode.

its well known saints are a 30 minute team , they cant press the oppostion for 90 minutes

No team can. Also I've never heard a single pundit, person or poster say Southampton are a '30 minute team'. Could I be cheeky and ask if they always do their '30 minute' piece at the start of games or some weeks do they mix it up and do it between minutes 60 and 90? Do they let the opposition know when they are going to 'start'?

, MP got his tactics spot on again , its about time some posters on here , gave him the credit due

He got it right in the 2nd half when he brought Garcia on. First half we were dominated. Also, read the Pellegrini thread. The kid gets a huge amount of 'credit'.

. We will do the same at klanfield let them come at us all guns blazing and pick them off when they have run out of steam , cant believe the negativity of some city "fans".

Naïve. See point 1 above.

tough game for us but a superb response by our boys after they score well done..the same for pool please!!!

the only team to "hammer" us in the last 4 years were Bayern Munich , dippers are no where near that standard , the point was the drama queen statement of getting "hammered".

saints can press for only 30 minutes during a 90 minutes game , they are not barcelona

i would say MP got it right in the 1st half , we scored 3 goals they scored 1

An irrelevant and indirect statistic to support your 'point' is never a great idea,

saints can press for only 30 minutes during a 90 minutes game , they are not barcelona

Barcelona are not known as a 'pressing' side so your inclusion of them here is bizarre.

i would say MP got it right in the 1st half , we scored 3 goals they scored 1

Again, a very crude interpretation. Being ahead in a game (or even winning a game) does not per se make you the better side or mean the manager 'got it right'. In all honesty if you genuinely believe MP 'got it right' in the first half even though we were dominated, you're worrying me.

I'm pretty sure you won't have noticed the irony in this bit so I'll just smile and leave you to compose your next 'reply'.

Strange game we weren't really out of first gear first half they dominated midfield. Yet we went in 3-1 up and in terms of chances probably should have been further in front, they did nothing in the final third to trouble Hart. Much the same in the 2nd half we could have blown them away but were a little unlucky. Garcia coming on won the midfield battle 2nd half. I see on twitter they seem to think 4-1 flattered us? Shots stats say it flattered them! It's alright having lots of the ball as they did but they really didn't do anything with it.

To be honest this gear analogy is getting a bit over used now, we did not play that well in the first half, yet were 3-1 up by half time, controlled the game 2nd half and came away with a comfortable victory against a good team although they seem to lack any bite up front

Actually the last team to hammer us in the prem were Liverpool in 2011. 3-0 down at half time and totally dicked all game. I left at 70 mins it was that shit.

Good win, Southampton are an excellent team, as they proved by outplaying us for most of the first half. I'd take Lannana tomorrow.
