City v Southampton post match thread

I know it contradicts my post in the Liverpool thread, but IMO, When you are at home, you need to take the game to sides like Southampton, as they will always create chances, so the key to winning the game is to create and score more than them, hard work on its own simply won't win the game, you need to keep the ball

I am really confused; so by sitting back (and generally playing crap) and winning 4-1. we should have played differently?

The "fire drill" is always made worse when they announce the attendance. That seems to be the cue for lots to leave. Are we really bothered, or could they announce it earlier?

Of course, it only happens when we're two goals clear, and nothing in the balance, which is most home games.

Is that not what we did second half and totally dominated the game? So you thought first half was an achievement? A dubious pen, and a goal that was offside, but cos we scored that makes it ok? Is that you're point?

We couldn't keep the ball, and they overran us for 40 mins, what's confusing about that

very true , i dont remember as many early leavers at maine road , but we were usually hanging on for a point , or trying to score a winner in the last 5 minutes , nowadays the game is wrapped up with 20 minutes left .

Very strange game and atmosphere was poor.We gave them acres of space in the first half. Something was not right. When Rodrigues got injured several City players were getting heated with each other over their performances. Second half was a totally different approach we closed them down more and it paid off. Our strikers missed some sitters and I hope the big game next week brings out the best that we can play.

Good 3 points today against a tricky opponent. Very Impressed with some of the young English Players in the Saints team. Got a bit of luck with the 2nd goal which was a mile offside and that seemed to knock the stuffing out of them. Better performance 2nd half but we need to play for the full match against Liverpool.

the only team to "hammer" us in the last 4 years were Bayern Munich , dippers are no where near that standard , the point was the drama queen statement of getting "hammered".

An irrelevant and indirect statistic to support your 'point' is never a great idea,

saints can press for only 30 minutes during a 90 minutes game , they are not barcelona

Barcelona are not known as a 'pressing' side so your inclusion of them here is bizarre.

i would say MP got it right in the 1st half , we scored 3 goals they scored 1

Again, a very crude interpretation. Being ahead in a game (or even winning a game) does not per se make you the better side or mean the manager 'got it right'. In all honesty if you genuinely believe MP 'got it right' in the first half even though we were dominated, you're worrying me.

naivety ? , much preferred to your time consuming condescending reply.

it is usually obligatory to pay for lessons , i accept paypal
.

I'm pretty sure you won't have noticed the irony in this bit so I'll just smile and leave you to compose your next 'reply'.

it may appear irrelevant to you , because you do not possess the intelligence to digest the comparison , the term "hammered" was mentioned and was dealt with by the bayern munich game , but your smug reply , which actually concludes nothing , appears to be your forte.

if a team is "dominated" , they have been out played , resulting in desperate defending , a very busy goalkeeper etc , your poor literacy is the problem , you seem to have plenty of time on your hands , perhaps you find a more suitable description in the oxford dictionary , and your concern is appreciated

Barcelona not a pressing side , absolute garbage , when Pep Guardiola managed Barca he gave them 15 seconds to retrieve the ball after losing possession this is enabled by "pressing" ,and they havent changed , this really sums up your lack of football knowledge ,but i wont worry about you , it would appear to be patronising

the irony of my reply ? when arrogance is instigated , it will be treated with the contempt it deserves , still smiling ?

From ear to ear yep.

I'm interested - how are you defining 'hammered'?

Domination doesn't have to result in desperate defending or a busy goalkeeper. It can also be about possession or stopping the opponent creating chances, or just simply being the better side for the majority of the game. For example the utd v bayern game ended 1-1 but bayern completely dominated despite utd's goalkeeper not being overly busy . When we beat utd 1-0 in the title season we totally dominated but utd weren't scrambling round in defensive chaos all the time.

So Barcelona are a shining example of a pressing side because they employed a 15 second strategy?

You talk some serious nonsense but just stop and think how pathetic that sounds. It takes seconds to score a goal, but Barcelona are ok to allow teams to have it for 15 seconds???

Give over.

Are you for real? Is that not what we did second half and totally dominated the game? So you thought first half was an achievement? A dubious pen, and a goal that was offside, but cos we scored that makes it ok? Is that you're point?

Southampton were a very good team, at the end of the day it came down to them being naive and having a lack of fitness. That is why invest so much time in character profiling these days. There isn't a lot more to it than that.

So where's the confusion?

Well you basically said we need to exert ourselves in these games. We didn't in the first half and came out on top 3-1. But you just know in the second half it would have happened if it needed to.
