City v Southampton post match thread

Silva 3 miles off side, yes he was, tough fuckin shit the rest of you wankers, it wouldn't have made any difference City could have had 7, what's the saying? Oh yeah tough titty

I enjoyed the match. Good to have a bit of opposition and have a game. Nice touch from the crowd clapping the chap off. As said by many they just did not have that killer touch in front of goal.

Lets hope for another good game next week and a City win.

Credit to the Saints for coming and having a go. They have a team packed full of talent and and had a positive game plan.
I really enjoyed the game and we looked tasty second half. Decent game.

Decisions like the 2nd goal decides and also makes it all exciting, terrible first half today in which 3-1 really flattered us. Mr Kolorov really needs to stop ball watching in defence although in attack he is quite astute a little like Glen Johnson at Diperpool which is really worrying !! The Southampton manager will not be there next season... far too good, in all a good day and I am absolutely certain we will dick the scousers next week !!!!

I thought Southampton were excellent in the first half, and they play good football, with a very high pressing game. Winning 4-1 in a game like this is an excellent result, and we could easily have gone in behind at half time. Sad about Rodriguez, but well done Vinny for making sure another pro got treated as quickly as he did, I hope he's not as bad as it looked.

Good to get an early goal, and we should have gone 2 up with Nasri's poor shot, but we had to hold on for long periods in the first half with our midfield missing in action, though why Yaya was so far away from Fernandhino I couldn't understand, and it should have been sorted after 20 minutes.

That we have the players we have though, and in 3 devastating minutes we ended the game, lucky with the offside, but we've been unlucky many times, so we were due one, the cross for the third was wonderful.

Second half we dominated, because of an excellent sub, Yaya came a bit deeper, Garcia read the game superbly, and Southampton had little threat, glad Jovetic got on, and scored, but I wish Negredo had got the tough as he does need a goal, even though he looked sharp.

Excellent result, far better than I expected, and in the end could easily have been 5 or 6, but a big well played to Southampton, they are a good side, and have a great manager, I do fear for them in the summer though, as they appear to have no choice but to sell their assets.

They should keep their boss at all costs though, tactically I think he's up their with the best.

A very nice three points against a talented side who played decent football and certainly gave our midfield the runaround in the first half. I do think however describing the Saints as "toothless" is doing a disservice to our defence who were certainly at the races today.

I thought Vinny played well and MDM and Kolorov were excellent. Excellent substitution by Mr P replacing Ferny with Garcia at half time and decent performances from Nasri, Navas and Dzeko. Silva once more was outstanding.

No idea how the linesman missed the offside.

Ok if we really have to.......

drama queens out in force again , "if we play like we did in the 1st half we will get hammered" we got an early goal , stood off them ,let them play tippy tappy football , then took them to the cleaners .

Context mate. What some posters are saying is if we allow Liverpool such space and time in midfield and advanced areas they will hurt us. This is Liverpool who have scored 40 odd more goals than Southampton and are actually leading goalscorers in the division. There is a huge difference in the quality of their front players compared to a Southampton team in 'end of season wind down' mode.

its well known saints are a 30 minute team , they cant press the oppostion for 90 minutes

No team can. Also I've never heard a single pundit, person or poster say Southampton are a '30 minute team'. Could I be cheeky and ask if they always do their '30 minute' piece at the start of games or some weeks do they mix it up and do it between minutes 60 and 90? Do they let the opposition know when they are going to 'start'?

, MP got his tactics spot on again , its about time some posters on here , gave him the credit due

He got it right in the 2nd half when he brought Garcia on. First half we were dominated. Also, read the Pellegrini thread. The kid gets a huge amount of 'credit'.

. We will do the same at klanfield let them come at us all guns blazing and pick them off when they have run out of steam , cant believe the negativity of some city "fans".

Naïve. See point 1 above.

the only team to "hammer" us in the last 4 years were Bayern Munich , dippers are no where near that standard , the point was the drama queen statement of getting "hammered".

An irrelevant and indirect statistic to support your 'point' is never a great idea,

saints can press for only 30 minutes during a 90 minutes game , they are not barcelona

Barcelona are not known as a 'pressing' side so your inclusion of them here is bizarre.

i would say MP got it right in the 1st half , we scored 3 goals they scored 1

Again, a very crude interpretation. Being ahead in a game (or even winning a game) does not per se make you the better side or mean the manager 'got it right'. In all honesty if you genuinely believe MP 'got it right' in the first half even though we were dominated, you're worrying me.

naivety ? , much preferred to your time consuming condescending reply.

it is usually obligatory to pay for lessons , i accept paypal
.

I'm pretty sure you won't have noticed the irony in this bit so I'll just smile and leave you to compose your next 'reply'.

it may appear irrelevant to you , because you do not possess the intelligence to digest the comparison , the term "hammered" was mentioned and was dealt with by the bayern munich game , but your smug reply , which actually concludes nothing , appears to be your forte.

if a team is "dominated" , they have been out played , resulting in desperate defending , a very busy goalkeeper etc , your poor literacy is the problem , you seem to have plenty of time on your hands , perhaps you find a more suitable description in the oxford dictionary , and your concern is appreciated

Barcelona not a pressing side , absolute garbage , when Pep Guardiola managed Barca he gave them 15 seconds to retrieve the ball after losing possession this is enabled by "pressing" ,and they havent changed , this really sums up your lack of football knowledge ,but i wont worry about you , it would appear to be patronising

the irony of my reply ? when arrogance is instigated , it will be treated with the contempt it deserves , still smiling ?

Lazy Ref Foy

I cannot believe how ridiculous Foy was once the result was in our favour. Some of the tackles were absolutely disgusting, and he was struggling to do anything about them. Typically lived up to his normal reputation; "I only give penalties and red cards when it's going to decide a game. but fouls and bookings forget about it". Southampton had studs up all over the pitch when the game was won, and you could tell he couldn't be bothered to do anything because the result was already decided. To me, that is nothing but a cowardly, lazy way of refereeing. And to top it all off he booked Yaya for diving for a penalty when every man and his dog knows he runs out of steam at that point and falls to the ground. Christ!

I know it contradicts my post in the Liverpool thread, but IMO, When you are at home, you need to take the game to sides like Southampton, as they will always create chances, so the key to winning the game is to create and score more than them, hard work on its own simply won't win the game, you need to keep the ball

Important win in our quest for the Title.

We were more clinical up front than Southampton.

Shame Negredo could not find a goal, it will come. He got into some very good positions.

Delighted for Jovetic to get some game time, bonus was the goal.

Thought Demichelis was Man of the Match. Silva was of course at his high standard and his pressing is really a joy to see,
