City vs Palace - Post Match Thread

Good game today. Only downside were two ignorant cunts behind me on the third tier of the South Stand shouting 'lazy bastard' every time Yaya got the ball. I'd take the season cards off them for ignorance alone.

On another note, Delph was excellent. Also surprised that Silva finished his chance off, as I thought he'd be in shock for getting a pass off Sergio in the box!

Must be related to the clowns sat behind me then

Pellegrini deserves credit for yesterday..thought outside the box. Just when you accept that he's a stubborn old man he always throws a curveball

Your getting ahead of yourself mate.
We all know we're not the best in Europe, so just now let's try and be the best in England. The way spurs are playing at the moment I'll take being better than them.
Let's then see what summer and a new chapter brings- European glory or a relegation dog fight
Exactly

We need to be the clear best in England first before thinking about barca

Your post highlights to me you haven't a clue about what makes a good team.

Only three world class players - we need to buy more wtf is that all about

That was just my thought as I looked at the starting 11 yesterday (though there were some very good players who didn't play). I think we need to buy more players to compete with Barca, Real etc. To be honest, I thought I might be stating the obvious, but you obviously disagree. Champions league glory here we come.

Great performance yesterday once we stopped giving them free headers in our box.
Delph showed what a bargain he was with a display of power, pace, skill and hard work that would put many more expensive players to shame and capped it off with the kind of goal he banged in regularly with Villa.
Great to see Zab back looking fit and hungry and even better seeing Nacho start. The kid hardly put a foot wrong.
All in all a fine day.

The thing is, that on this occasion, it was his 4-2-2-2 system &, ok, Palace aren't great & there were various faults, but he dropped Yaya, two more athletic players in centre mid & it worked, & we scored 4 goals. In Seville, he played a totally different system, with different players, Yaya backed up by two more athletic centre mids & no Silva or DeBruyne & it worked & we scored 3 away from home.

Why don't we look at having two more athletic players in centre mid, as a general rule, whatever the formation ?

What? Arent Otamendi and Demi both 6 foot+ whats the issue?

Yep, ( although without the +). Which is quite small for centre backs these days. But you need more than two tall players to adequately defend corners and we don't have them just now apart from Yaya and Fernando. The Watford game apart, Kolarov usually did a decent job defending the near post at corners.

All of those thoughts were my overriding impressions of yesterday too. Was so impressed with Delph. Baffles me when he is overlooked because he has overall been nothing but impressive whenever he's played. Zab looks fitter than he's looked for ages and it was just so good to see him back out on the pitch and flying into tackles. The kid is going to be some footballer in the years to come. Thought he was handled right yesterday - given a deserved start - given an hour - then brought off with applause ringing in his ears. Gutted he didn't score/connect with the ball he chested down for himself in the box, had he connected it would've been a goal.

Happier than I have been in ages at a performance.

I said yesterday it was one of those 2nd gear, completely in control performances we have when we are confident and you felt we could have shifted up at any time.

This squad and this manager know how to get over the line and im as confident as ever they will do just that.

As trite as it sounds, at the Etihad it's all about getting that first goal by hook or by crook. Because once you have it the opposition have to come out of their shell, and like Pellegrini said we are a dangerous team when we have even a little bit of space.
